Re: 96 SL2 - Coolant leak, blowing radiators, possible head/head gasket?

As I understand it, dry numbers give you a baseline and let you know whether you have any compression issues. Wet numbers tell you if it's rings or valve issues. The oil helps the rings seal, but...

Re: 96 SL2 - Coolant leak, blowing radiators, possible head/head gasket?

Well, the compression numbers are in and the results are not encouraging...

Cyl: 1 2 3 4
Dry: 130 120 80 110
Wet: 170 165 150 160

Looks like the rings are pretty worn on this...

Re: Won't start, help needed

Possibly a security system malfunction. If the alarm thinks it's set, it kills the engine by disabling fuel.

Re: no start - click but no crank - worked yesterday

Sounds like what I had happen on my 96 SL2. Intermittent click/no start. Battery and cables were good.

I took the starter down and it tested bad. I did a post-mortem on it and found that the...

96 SL2 - Coolant leak, blowing radiators, possible head/head gasket?

Hello all.

A few months ago, I acquired a 96 SL2. I noted a few coolant leaks including a cracked OEM radiator. I replaced all the hoses, radiator, and thermostat. The radiator I got is the...

Re: Intermittent No-Crank, 2001 SL1

If it were me, I would check the park/neutral safety switch. Not sure where it's at on the saturns, but most vehicles it is on the transmission.

Re: Polymer panels get brittle with age

Novel idea, I'm sure... but hear me out..

Maybe your panels (and vehicles in general) would last longer if you and your authorized drivers would stop HITTING THINGS!

Re: Flashing Temp and Low Coolant Lights

Flashing indicates low engine coolant. If you're dealing with that after a coolant tank replacement, the float switch or wiring may be faulty. They're easily replaced and available on Amazon.

Re: DOHC Thermostat bypass/heater line leak - pipe tape?

Then that explains why it was leaking! Thanks!

Re: DOHC Thermostat bypass/heater line leak - pipe tape?

Yeah, I know it *should* work. I'm just curious as to why Saturn didn't use any sealant or teflon tape on that in the first place.... or did they?

DOHC Thermostat bypass/heater line leak - pipe tape?

While installing the new radiator on my SL2, I noticed that the bypass fitting appeared to have been leaking for a while.

I pulled it off, wrapped the threads in pipe tape, and reinstalled it. ...

Re: My 99' SL2 will crank, not start

I'm wondering if you're not having ignition coil failure, or a failing Crank Position Sensor...

Re: I'm back! With a new project even!

2002 4 cyl, 5 speed. It had a TON of electrical issues that impacted everything from the horn and airbags to the drive by wire system.

Re: 97 sl base will not shift into 1st when on or off

Sounds like the 1st gear synchros may be messed up. Happens from trying to shift into 1st at too high of a speed.

When's the last time you did a fluid change?

I'm back! With a new project even!

Hello all! It's been a while since I last had a Saturn. I joined this forum when I had my 98 SL2. When I spun a rod bearing, I gave up on that. I had a VUE for a while, which was the biggest POS...

Re: very soft brakes. don't know what I'm missing.

I'm not sure I would confidently say it's not air in the system. He did state that the rears have a slight drag already.

Another thing I would check is every one of the rubber hydraulic lines. ...

Re: It's been a while

I say this gingerly, as I know it's going to prove me wrong...

There wasn't much useful on the car, save for the starter, water pump, transmission, and a couple of small parts on the interior.

Re: I'm stumped and need help

Any chance the key/ignition is getting stuck with the switch in the "start" position, or somehow the Starter is continuing to receive power after the key release?

Re: need help

I'm leaning toward a failed battery. They do sometimes go out with little or no warning. Take it to Autozone or similar and they'll do a free battery and alternator check.
