Re: My First Wagon!

Well aware of this

I had read that the ECU will turn on the fan at ~220.F. Whether this is at half way or three quarters ... is no big deal. Whether the gauge is calibrated differently, or...

Re: 82k threads about s-series

That is a lot of threads. I wasn't aware of the google search option embedded into the forums, I've been doing a lot of google searches with "site:www.saturnfans.com", a trick I learned from being on...

Re: My First Wagon!

Great success!

With the new ECTS, and harness, the fan does cycle. It turns on just past the 3/4 mark.

Re: "Fogged" headlight: best remedy?

3M kit (or equivalent) is the best way to go. When I worked at the shop, we used those kits for our headlight restore service. It works extremely well, because it actually removes the oxidized/...

Re: My First Wagon!

Well, I went and replaced the ECTS harness today. Found one in the boneyard with almost no corrosion, dipped it in some CLR to get it right sparkly clean, then replaced the original with it.

I let...

Re: PCV valve test

Re: My First Wagon!

:)

First question I have ->

Rad Fan doesn't turn on when the car temperature gets past half way. If I hit the AC, the fan turns on. So, I know that the rad fan itself is fine. I swapped out the...

My First Wagon!

So, after years of owning VWs, I have bought my first Saturn! My friend Lianne had a SC2 that I ended up replacing the cylinder head for her after it cracked. I always thought it was a neat car, so...

Re: New or Returning S-Series owners' checklist Version 3.0

Fantastic thread. Thanks for all the good info here!

Wish I had found/ read this before I bought my spark plugs (Bosch Platinums), but we'll see how that goes :D

Re: washed off engine, now WAY harder to get in first gear?

so it'd be better to have no lubrication between the plastic ends and the metal tabs they mate too (with the little slide-on clip on top)?

It shifted relatively fine with the vehicle off. A little...

Re: Rough shifting after washing engine...FYI

Good info here, hopefully this is my problem, as my train of thought is pretty much exactly the same as OPs ... wash car, crap shifting. Thoroughly lubed all pivot points on linkage. Still erratic...

Re: washed off engine, now WAY harder to get in first gear?

I've the same issue. I'm really hoping it's not an issue inside the bellhousing, I really don't want to pull that apart. (I just bought this car!)

I've gone over the shift forks and cables on top...

Re: First Time Replacing Head [an adventure]

well, it's done!

It started a touch rough (noisy lifters, empty fuel rail), but it runs great now!

I let it run thru a few heating cycles, topping off coolant. I made sure there were no leaks...

Re: First Time Replacing Head [an adventure]

fast forward to today. Not much left, I have the TC back on, I used a black silicon with a longer set time (that has set for a few days).

I've got main pulley back on, AC compressor, PS pump all...

Re: First Time Replacing Head [an adventure]

alright. I did read that in the FSM as well, but couldn't find any different coloured links.

So, after dousing the chain in brake cleaner, I did find 3 _slightly_ off colour links.

Re: First Time Replacing Head [an adventure]

nevermind, found where the pins slide in.

FSM #6:

With the pins in place, should the chain sit tightly across the top of the gears? Mine sags slightly between the two, but I can't shift either...

Re: First Time Replacing Head [an adventure]

long time, no post!

I've had some issues with my own GTI that needed looking after (replacing starter, leaking downpipe)

But, I just finished torquing down the new cylinder head! I followed the...

Re: dying water pump

I'd replace it right away.

I'm currently replacing the _entire head_ on a SC2 because the pump went, and the CTS wasn't working, and Lianne never knew it was overheating until it was too late.

Re: First Time Replacing Head [an adventure]

one more question too:

am I better off to try and grab a used head from the wreckers? Or should I just get a rebuilt one?

Re: First Time Replacing Head [an adventure]

ok, good to know guys! Last time I did a timing cover, it had a gasket, so I assumed Saturn would be the same.

Plus, anything Permatex is cheaper than a full fledged gasket, I can grab that from...

Re: First Time Replacing Head [an adventure]

Day 2:

only had about an hour to do work ...

I got the main pulley off! Hit it up with my impact and it spun right off, didn't even need my gear...
