Now as far as the fan issue in concerned. I don't know if it's related to the engine running badly or not. My friend says that saturn l-series pcu's kick the fan on for the oddest reasons,...

220K miles, burns a fourth of a quart every 2 or 3 K. Previously owned by lead footed drivers who took damn good care of it.

Re: Thermostat, sensor, or normal for this weather?

I suddenly went from getting as much as 440 miles per tank, to only 360 (at best) miles per tank.

Thermostat, sensor, or normal for this weather?

Is the guage in the pic normal for after an hour of driving 80mph on the highway in 30F degree weather? The needle used to go almost to the verticle line just a few weeks ago when the weather was...

Re: Steering clunks a little when turning

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Unfortunately, an old back injury decided to act up, and I was unable to look at my car today.

I consistently hear/feel the clunks when I turn the wheel whether...

Steering clunks a little when turning

I finally got my L200 last Friday. I'm amazed with it's condition for having 207K miles. My dad drove to from NC to here, about 600 miles. I checked the oil when he got here, it was still on the...

Re: 2000 Saturn LW2; oil looks milky; needs new head gasket?

The most common cause of a blown head gasket is overheating. If you do determine that yours is blown, there's a good chance that you could also have minor or even severe head damage. If you end up...

Intake manifold baffle?

I'm contemplating using seafoam, or some other product, to clean the intake and injectors via a vacuum hose and also the gas tank.

Do the intakes on these engines have a baffle system in them?

Re: 2000 Saturn LW2; oil looks milky; needs new head gasket?

A decent way to check for a blown head gasket is by removing the radiator/coolant while the engine is running AND IS STILL COLD. If the coolant immediately starts bubbling excessively, you most...

Experienced old school mechanic new to Saturns

I'm getting my first Saturn, this weekend, to be a daily driver that won't kill me on gas.

It's a 2002 L200 with 200,000, mostly highway, miles. My dad bought it, almost a decade ago, to drive to...

Just a suggestion

I own a few cars and I'm a member of the popular forums for those cars; and all of those forums have a very handy sub category for each vehicle that this forum does not seem to have.

Each of those...

Re: Feeling Blue

I'm not sure if this is any help for you... A member who went by Backforest experimented with various color LEDs in his L-series, one of those colors being blue. He has pictures posted in a thread...

Re: Getting a 2002 L200. What should I expect?

Make sure you pick a spot where there's space for the nut. Also, use a short bolt that doesn't screw in much past the nut. A good trick I've used (that may be a little over kill, but I'd rather be...

Re: Getting a 2002 L200. What should I expect?

Are you saying I should follow the torque specs specified by the filter kit? Or follow the torque specs specified in the Haynes manual?

My dad showed me, many years ago, how to put a drain bolt...

Re: Getting a 2002 L200. What should I expect?

If the timing chain was replaced at 125K, is there a good chance it has the second design chain in it?

Re: Getting a 2002 L200. What should I expect?

If he says they've been replaced, then they've been replaced. He has no reason to hype up a car he's driving here (to Kentucky) from NC to give me for free.

I also know he's replaced the truck...

Re: Getting a 2002 L200. What should I expect?

I'm planning to do the airbox mod. Are there any other free/inexpensive tricks to squeeze a little extra HP out of these little engines?
