Cool Re: I'm going to make my WAI.

I've got an insulated HAI, a partial exhaust manifold heat shield, a grille block, and weather stripping under the leading edge of the hood (seals against the headlights). My intake air can get up...

Re: What would you buy new thread!

Yaris sedan. Better mileage and look than the Astra. Too bad Saturn sold out.

Re: Changing Color of Late-Model S-Series Stock Gauge Cluster

Those #74 bulbs, while correct in terms of fitment, have only a single LED and therefore may result in a "blotchy" appearance of the cluster illumination -- that's why I went through the rigamaroll...

Re: White gunk on PCV valve?

I have some really weird whitish solids slowly accumulating in the bottom of my PCV catch can. So much so that the drain hole in the bottom is restricted. It must be either 1) dissolved solids...

Re: Cleaning Carbon off of Pistons

Don't forget: a soda can has a thin polymer coating on the inside.

For physically cleaning your engine, why not use gun cleaners such as Gun Scrubber (trichloroethylene), Hoppe's, and Bore...

Re: LMAO...blown engine!

The ricer's GF probably decreased the horsepower-to-weight ratio considerably.

Re: Hit huge raccoon.

Madpogue and I had a brief discussion about this since a while ago I wanted to take off my front plate...after scouring the Wisconsin state statutes it became clear that front and back are required...

Re: What if you had to replace your SL today?

That's because the newer Saturns have lackluster MPG.

Re: What if you had to replace your SL today?

I'm starting to think the Yaris is cool. I won't have to think about it for another 5 years or so though. The Yaris has the same 14 inch wheels that my SL does, so I could keep my fancy rims. :)

Re: OBX exhaust rcing headers, yes or no?

Can someone tell me what the large-diameter canister-looking thingy is on my exhaust manifold (after the branches converge but before the downpipe)? My 02 has it but I don't think my wife's 98 does.

Re: The future of fuel economy in the US.

I love NY Times journalists; the language they use is so neutral. And they're also experts in every field they write about.

Re: SC- Girls car?

When I met my wife, I was driving a black 2002 company Jetta, and she was driving her green 1998 SL. She had purchased it brand new for her first job because she liked the simple, "no-frills"...

Re: Should i change this O2 sensor??

I did the same thing as Leo; my car was at ~113,000. Can't tell if there was an MPG gain, because I also did some other things simultaneously. In theory there should be an MPG gain; some people say...

Sorry about your grandfather. That's a nice gift for you to put so much effort into customizing a car for him...I'm sure he appreciated it.

Re: Question about K&N Filter cleaner..

I ran out of cleaner before I ran out of oil, so I used Dawn dish soap. It's a detergent which is relatively innocuous/mild. Since I was unabashed about using the Dawn (as compared to the expensive...

I have a stock brass-tipped IATS and a GP Sorensen brass-tipped ECTS. Both read exactly the same temperature when the car is cold.

Re: Loud "chattering" from cover/IM at start-up

Yes, it's an '02 with the hair dryer, and yes, I've heard it run before. The noise I am describing definitely does NOT sound like a pump/fan, unless there is some sort of solenoid...

Re: Loud "chattering" from cover/IM at start-up

No, I am not sure about that. Could it be an un-primed pump cavitating / water hammer? It was really bad yesterday morning on the first start after replacing hoses / ECTS / thermostat and refilling...

Loud "chattering" from cover/IM at start-up

My car makes a loud chattering noise which seems to emanate from the passenger side of the valve cover, or perhaps the intake manifold. This occurs only when starting up cold and goes away after...
