Re: My Red Hot got into an Accident! (w/Pic)

Oh no. Sorry to hear this. I was at the JY last week, and there are a few of the 2nd gen SCs around as sources for hoods, didn't see anything red though. From what I have seen in my 95 and the 01...

Re: Gas Door Won't Pop Open

This is what the southern junk yards are for. When I visited one in Georgia, I was amazed at how little rust was on the cars.

Re: How do I fix this?

That subframe is bent right by the control arm to subframe bolt, you need to replace the subframe, and possibly the control arm. How is the tie rod?

Re: Emergency Travel Support S-series

Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I also found a "mobile-friendly" javascript app: http://leafletjs.com
This could come in handy for creating a map.

Re: Deer and Saturns

Lots of u-pull junkyards have online inventory listings of what cars they have in the yard and sometimes have the color listed. You can also check out http://car-part.com and look up your part and...

Re: 2002 sc2 head bolt dilemna

Turn off the cell phone and make sure you have no interruptions while you are doing the torque process. You do not want any interruptions. Print out the torque process, do not do it from memory. The...

Re: Switching to 89 nonethanol gas?

Yup, I use the non-oxy in my 95SC2, mostly because it tends to sit over winter and I don't want alcohol in the system, but also because it is what the car was designed to run on. Not to mention, it...

Re: 2001 Saturn SL manual noise/chatter under load

Could be throw out bearing and seems like most likely culprit, could be something else though. This car is probably on its original clutch.

Mobil 1 is good stuff, can't complain about it at all....

Re: 2001 Saturn SL manual noise/chatter under load

Does the noise change or decrease when you push in the clutch while the sound is occurring? That would at least isolate the noise to either the clutch and transmission or the engine. 112K is a little...

Re: Valve Job Advice - 1996 SC2 DOHC

I found my hoist for $100 and engine stand for $50 on craigslist, some geographical areas are better than others for this. The load leveler I had to pick up from HF.

Re: Front end accident advice

Headlights can be removed with the front bumper in place, but it is a pain in the neck reaching around everything and it is tricky. I would take the bumper off just to see what the damage is and for...

Re: Valve Job Advice - 1996 SC2 DOHC

Haha, yes, I understand, part of it is a budget and time equation, and while you are in with both feet in terms of interest, there are other things going on.
The best thing to do is find a good...

Re: Valve Job Advice - 1996 SC2 DOHC

It is much easier to do the job with the engine out of the car, and you are at 220K, which is significant. This is the 1-10 decision making tool that should bring some clarity: Where are you on a...

Re: Info on not honing or touching smooth cylinders for re-rings

I read the "Careful with That Hone, Eugene" information a few years back, and found it very informative. I think the real question is, will this translate into the Saturn world? The two requirements...

Re: water pump on borrowed time

I'd test out the play in the bearings of the pump like fdryer said, if it is good, let it go, but at that milage I would have a replacement in-hand ready to install. If there is play, and it's bad, I...

Re: Torque plates for cylinder rebore

Engine is still in the car and runs good, but burns a quart every 200 miles or so. At this point I'm assuming sleeves are good and are not spinning in the block. The other thing I am finding out is...

Torque plates for cylinder rebore

I'm in the process of researching machine shops in my area for boring/honing the block in my 95SC2. I know it is advisable to have a torque plate in place when boring, but none of the machine shops...

Re: Received Parts From Rockauto Today...

If you slide the boot down, is there a lip on the control arm the boot slides over to keep it in place?, and will it stay? That would be the first thing to check out.

It is unusual, I've used...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Went to a horse farm with the SW2 and hauled some mulch for the garden.
On the SC2, added a quart of oil. When I parked it the other night, came back the next morning and it was at exactly 167K.

Re: Subframe rust has begun

POR-15 is what I used on my 98 SW2 subframe. Use a couple of coats. Read directions and be careful with it, once dry it will not come off.

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Pulled a dead sparrow carcass from the radiator on the 95SC2, and got everything taken apart and cleaned up in order to install a 92 header.
