Re: Grinding/scraping noise from steering at tight angles

I finally got these replaced. It was the outer tie rod ends (the garage used AC Delco Advantage #MES3238RL parts, according to the invoice). Everything else seems to be ok. It's kind of amazing how...

Springs and shocks for 2001 Saturn SC2

Are the OEM parts still in stock at this point? My SC2 is still running its original shocks and springs, but I think they are overdue for replacement... I took a look at the AMR coilovers, too, but I...

Re: Any experience with EBC brake products?

Thanks for the input. At this point, I might go with either the EBC Greenstuff or the AC Delco pads.

According to EBC's website: "Redstuff is only available for heavier and faster cars and does...

Re: Aftermarket Stainless Steel Exhaust?

I have the Thermal R&D exhaust system it's been on my car for about 9 years. It's mostly quiet unless you nail the throttle and the mechanics at the garage say mine still looks brand new:

Re: Any experience with EBC brake products?

I'll look around for the Centric stuff and make sure the brake fluid is changed when the time comes.

Re: Any experience with EBC brake products?

The SC2 is a daily driver so it doesn't need that much braking on the street or the highway. I just got new Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season tires that are a big improvement over my old set of Kumho...

Re: Optima Red Top battery for 2001 SC2

The Red Top is still going strong. I charged it last weekend with an Optima 400 and it read at 75% capacity. I didn't need to make any changes when I installed it this one fits the stock battery...

Re: Grinding/scraping noise from steering at tight angles

Turns out the noise was caused by worn outer tie rod ends. I'll get new ones along with a suspension bushing replacement job later on.

Re: Any experience with EBC brake products?

I talked to my mechanic about the EBC Redstuff pads he said it would increase pedal effort when cold, paradoxically reducing your braking feel unless you upgrade your stock calipers.

He...

Re: 2001 SC2 Recommendations for Serpentine Belt

I ended up getting a Dayco belt. The mechanics said it was a pain to access they had to remove part of the front fender.

Re: 2001 SC2 Recommendations for Serpentine Belt

That's really useful info. I'll make sure to get a 778 if I use a Gates tensioner.

My belt squeaks occasionally, but it's been quiet for the last few months. Go figure. :ugh:

Re: Headlight bulbs GE Nighthawk, Sylvania Silverstars, etc.

This is really interesting... I remember reading about the HIR bulbs last year, but I didn't know they were a substitute for stock ones.

Thanks, guys! I'm passing these links to my friends.

Re: Grinding/scraping noise from steering at tight angles

Seems to happen both ways (left and right turns). I'll let you guys know what happens I'm taking it to a mechanic in a few weeks.

Headlight bulbs GE Nighthawk, Sylvania Silverstars, etc.

What's the word on headlight bulb upgrades? Will they just burn out sooner? I'd rather have long-lasting ones if so.

Found this from Consumer Reports:...

Re: Grinding/scraping noise from steering at tight angles

Thanks, guys. It's a repeating grinding noise more likely the CV joints or power steering. It does seem to be intermittent (only happens sometimes), which makes me more suspicious of the steering...

Grinding/scraping noise from steering at tight angles

Hey guys,

When I am making sharp turns at low speeds in my 2001 SC2, e.g., in a parking garage, sometimes I get a grinding/scraping sound (steering otherwise feels normal). Any clues as to the...

Re: Any experience with EBC brake products?

Thanks, guys. I'll keep an eye out for Centric products. I think I'll stick with plain rotors.

Re: 2001 SC2 Recommendations for Serpentine Belt

Thanks, guys! I'll inspect it myself... the SC2 is nearly at 109,000 miles, so it might be time for a new one, probably Gates if I can find one.

Any experience with EBC brake products?

I'm looking for a replacement set of front pads and rotors for my 2001 SC2 (lightly-modded with bolt-ons) for street driving. Does anybody have experience with EBC's current Redstuff pads and/or...

2001 SC2 Recommendations for Serpentine Belt

So the dealer told me the serpentine belt is cracked.

I might be overthinking this – should I just go with an AC Delco part or are there other alternatives? They seem to go for about $25.

Re: Optima Red Top battery for 2001 SC2

The Optima battery seems to be working well so far. I didn't notice any corrosion on the terminals when I did the battery change, so I'm hoping it will last a long time.

Here's the Optima model...

Re: Optima Red Top battery for 2001 SC2

A buddy was able to get the Optima Red Top battery for me, which we installed this morning. It fits perfectly and we'll see if it lasts through the warranty period.

Re: Optima Red Top battery for 2001 SC2

Thanks, off-track! I'll keep it in mind for the next time. I would have also considered NAPA stock, but the nearest store is about 10 miles away.

OldNuc, I'd try it, but that would involve access...
