Re: intake manifold and my irritation level

Nice response, by the way.
If you don't have a sense of humor, keep the hood of your Saturn closed.:)

Re: intake manifold and my irritation level

HA !!

If you're taking that PS pump off, take pictures, use color coded paints, and meditate before reinstalling.

Guess what I had the most trouble with?

I'm interested in your Intake...

Re: Location of Oil Filter - '98 SL2

It's behind the Alternator on my car... kinda around that area
at least I HOPE that was the oil filter.

Re: Map Sensor Problem

Yep. I was thinking to clean out the MAP port.

Kind of wondering if a high signal from the sensor means a high vacuum pressure.

Is there a way to get too much vacuum in the Intake Manifold?

Re: 2 mechanics can't figure this out

The belt tension pulleys are the only topical thing I can think of that would make a noise like that.

I'd expect a tap or clunk from something inside the Chain Cover.

Pulley could be loose and...

Re: ok Yall were right I was wrong

If you're having persistent corrosion problems you need to check the condition of the terminal that's oxidizing.

Unless some chemical has contaminated the terminal, the corrosion is the result of...

Re: Manual Trans Whine

This is the second time I've added fluid, but it's also following the second time I've had the pump off of the mount doing the timing chain.
It shouldn't have leaked out, but maybe it did.

Is...

Re: I think the saturn just retired itself.

On second thought.
Crank those Cams around and see if you have a valve locked up.

THEN be positive. :)

Re: I think the saturn just retired itself.

I suppose you could crank the cams around to do a compression test but...
that wouldn't be my first step.

I think you'll need to at least put a new timing set in and run the car.
I'll be upbeat...

Re: Synthetic Oil

Let me jump out and say NO !!!

Here's the tale.
My daughter put a 20w-50 weight oil in the Saturn to quiet a noisy valve.
She left it in until winter came.
That oil did not warm or move fast...

Re: anybody got a manual handy --> tourque setting

On mine, I used a thin coat of blue RTV sealant around the spark plug holes and it's holding fine so far.
The layer is only about "paint thick". Not much at all.
It was cheaper than buying a new...

Re: Finally got her in!!!

I'm 48, so the word comes in it's original context.
That's awesome.

I ran the video 3 times to hear the roar.

I wouldn't mind a follow up video of a road run.
Let us know how you like that...

Re: ECTS lock tight on thresds--plumber's tape?

Yeah, Teflon.

But is this a real story? I've been in 3 Auto Zones and none of them had an ECTS.

You live in a magical place, Jerry. :D

Re: Manual Trans Whine

well SOB...
First off, the symptoms were changing on me.

If it was the Trans, then it was a matter or worn fluid.

It's the Power Steering.
It resonates in the garage but once I got it outside...

Re: Manual Trans Whine

I'm most likely a victim of my inexperience on this one.
I'm not accustomed to manual transmissions making the noise of an automatic.
I've never put ATF in a manual either, so I'm on new turf...

Man, I'm glad you're awake. There seems to be no end to what I don't know on these cars.

Here's the link to BarbOwl's post on the wire test....

Re: problems help me!!!!!

I know I'm confused but what the heck I'll keep plugging at it. :D

If the pedal is all the way out (your foot is off of it) syncing (floating) the gears is normal, so I must still be missing that....

Re: problems help me!!!!!

I'm not keeping up with your terminology.

Are saying that when you depress the clutch pedal slightly it shifts normally
and when you fully depress the clutch ("to the floor") you have to sync...

Re: Acceleration Delay?

If you want to try something...
I don't think there's been a simple test designed for the MAP
but when I changed mine, I put a Volt-Ohm meter on it.

Flip the MAP on it's back
Have the...

Re: Manual Trans Whine

I apologize for my confusion.
I don't want to miss thanks for the fluid info. I haven't been able to find it and I'm not prone to trusting the Parts Guy on a big item like a transmission.

I'll...

Re: Manual Trans Whine

Okay. Let me start over.

I need to put the transmission in the best possible condition it can be in before I do any exploring.

What in the transmission can cause that whine?
I'm a little...
