Re: Exhaust replacement decision

You can replace the entire exhaust including flexpipe for about $400 in parts from Wagner. They had coupons too, which amounted to $100 off that price, not sure if that's still in effect though. It's...

Re: New LCA gone bad after alignment

Eh, I'd be back at that alignment shop asking for damages, not Rockauto.

Re: Rear door handle won't spring closed

There's a tiny spring which accomplishes this, right in the handle mechanism when you pull off the door skin. It rusts out and breaks.

Re: sudden BRAKE PROB (soft pedal) w/no fluid loss?

You mention a recent brake job. Look at the front brake hoses and check for bulging, the calipers may have been rotated and the brake hoses twisted and made to rub on the tires. Verify this...

Re: Walker vs Magnaflow Cat cons

I've had a Walker cat since spring 2012, no issues so far. Holds up pretty well to rust, too.

Re: Shuddering under load

Likely your cat con is blocked and the exhaust is restricted. I remember freaking out about this myself, back in the day.

Remove your front O2 sensor, go for a loud drive, and see if the issue is...

Re: Engine seized

Sounds like he was having some fun redlining it with a quart low on oil and the inevitable occurred. Coulda been a mis-shift or coulda been racing it, either way I'd never trust a teenager to tell...

Re: Heading to the junkyard for SL2 parts - what should I get?

Not to thread hijack, but a coil/ICM issue will typically present as a misfire in 1/4 or 2/3 simultaneously, and in the case of coils will move when you swap them.

If you're getting a misfire in...

Re: Does a car run hotter in hotter weather?

The engine isn't a monolithic block of metal. The exterior and interior can have different temperatures.

In the winter, the cold air entering the engine bay will cool the exterior parts and...

Re: Rear drum adjustment - how far?

If you're struggling to get one or two clicks on the e-brake, do yourself a favor and adjust the ebrake screw. :)

Re: Rear drum adjustment - how far?

A max of two clicks on the e-brake is way too tight. Your brake is dragging and you're wasting gas.

Richpin vid says 3 clicks should be tight enough to hold the car against its own power at idle...

Re: ANOTHER multiple misfire CHALLENGE!!

You can take your chances replacing the gasket or swap in a known working engine. Honestly, it might be faster and simpler just to swap in a new SOHC with good compression, because who knows if a new...

Re: RANDOM rattling under acceleration

My guess would be a heat shield or the exhaust system.

Re: Rattle at idle only when hot?

If this is an aftermarket tensioner and belt, this can be the tensioner reaching its end stop, apparently this is caused by the aftermarket stock belt being too long for the aftermarket tensioner.

Re: non frowny motor mounts at autozone with lifetime warranty

I've tried these before. The quality of the rubber isn't up to the par of OEM and while the mount is durable, it still passes a lot of vibration to the cabin. I switched from these to OEM and it went...

Re: Replacement Lower Control Arms

I sprang for Moog when I did my LCAs, good quality dust boot and tight ball joint, I wasn't disappointed.

Re: 1997 Saturn 4 Door DOHC Loud Engne Knock

Take the valve cover off and check for loose material, for instance loose plastic from the timing chain tensioner guides. You can also run the engine for a little while with the valve cover off (if...

Re: low compression

That's a classic burnt exhaust valve on #3.

Things you need to do:

- Figure out why it was running lean (fuel pump/filter/injectors)
- Buy and put on a new head (and timing set, might as well)

Re: Saturn sc2 steering wheel shakes

Shaky steering wheel at highway speed tends to be a tire balance problem. Get the tires rebalanced.

Re: Power door mirror removal

As an aside, I've found the aftermarket side-mirror glass to be a bit iffy. Power mirrors seem unaffected, but twice now I've bought a manual side mirror and the glass is loose enough to rattle at...

Re: Need advice on Exhaust system purchase

I replaced my entire exhaust with Walker parts and it has withstood the latest Canadian winter quite well... just a few rust pecks on the muffler, but they're only cosmetic.
