Re: Failing thermostat or ECTS?

Neither part is all that expensive. You said you thought he ETCS was original and the thermostat appears to be in question.

If it were mine I'd just replace both and be done. Then while all the...

Re: Belt Tensioner, Again

Also make sure one of the belt driven items isn't having an issue such as a bearing trying to freeze up.

Re: axle seals

My rule is if it's not dripping on the floor where I park then it doesn't need fixed.

If it were mine I'd just top it off and then check it often to get an idea how fast it's level is dropping....

Re: Repeated Spark plug issue

Did you replace the fuel filter recently?

Sounds to me like #3 is running very lean so combustion temps are sky high. Normally this results in a burnt valve. Or at least when the plug was pulled...

Re: Rear Trailing Arm

I agree with replace it asap. It's really not hard or time consuming to do.

I would also recommend an alignment after as it will most likely change the settings on the rear wheel.

Re: rear main seal and clutch Q

Being that far into it I'd be hard pressed to come up with a reason not to replace the quill seal and the rear main. For the amount of work to get to them and the little bit of cost it's just not...

Re: Spaceman's BYOB-DOHC Rebuild Partythread

Not a big fan of this... use Super Clean or one of the other water based degreasing/cleaning products. I put Super Clean in a spray bottle and then use a parts cleaning brush for the heavy stuff.

Need OEM radio 2nd gen

ok so the old am/fm/cassette bit the dust. All static, when I do get a station it fades out after a couple minutes.

I have a nice aftermarket unit but not a fan of moving it down to there the...

Re: 1995 saturn SL2

As a 95 owner...

interior is the same as the 96, parts (if you need them) are a dime a dozen.

Exterior parts are same as first gen, also dime a doz UNLESS you have the new for 95 teal green and...

Re: 1999 sl1 1/4 coil not firing

Lets do this the easy way...

so swap coils so 1/4 becomes 2/3 and vise-versa.

If the problem follows the coil then replace the coil. If it stays where it was then replace the ICM

Re: AC issue - need advice please

I'll second the expansion valve failure.

It could be a failed pump but if there is no restriction in the system the pump will never build pressure since it takes a restriction to flow to build...

Re: switching oil ?

Personally I would not count the maintenance things like brakes, belt, etc against the cost of a rebuild. Same goes for the subframe.

At my 416k rebuild I also replaced all the heater hoses,...

Re: SL2 lags bad on acceleration

A good cleaning of the throttle body may be in order too. This is a good 60k-80 maintenance item either way.

I would also spark check the coils. easy and fast and cost is zero. Pull the plug wires...

Re: Please help. Car acts up after reaching normal operating temp.

I second the CPS.

Easy to test... let it run until it quits and then spark test the coils by pulling the spark plug wires off the coils and having a friend crank the engine. No spark = bad cps...

Re: Camber Adjuster Bolts.

Most say you don't need them at all. Normally the bottom hole is slotted in the strut and loosening the bolt and bumping the tire in or out will do the trick

Re: UPDATE to my thread 2216178

I go 5,000 miles between oil changes and it doesn't use enough that it's obvious on the dip stick.

aftermarket pistons with oil return SLOTS and hastings rings.

I have to say if I had been you...
