Re: 2002 Saturn Heater Problems

We also should know whether he has the basic manual HVAC control or automatic controls.

Re: Strange Popping/Grinding Noises

It is hard to tell exactly what is happening from your description. But I think there is something in the drive axles and CV joints generating these noises. The reason that they disappear when the...

Re: Ecotec PCV Test

@ Hec.... The Saab B235XX engine. My previous '99 had the LPT and I currently have a '05 Aero. No issues with these engines but eventually they need timing chains (just like the L61). Oh, maybe a few...

Re: Ecotec PCV Test

The predecessor of the PCV system was called a "road draft tube". These were banned with the introduction of emission controls. If you direct the hose down to the road or to a catch can, you have...

Re: HELP!...........Radio Problem!

+1 What ruley73 said. The radio outputs will shut down if a short is detected.

Re: Tools needed to replace turn signal lever?

We just did this on the LW1. It was not necessary to remove the lower shroud on the steering column, only the upper one that just snaps off. The switch itself just clips in. In all, a 5 minute job.

Re: Swapping the motor and transmission on a 2000 LS2. Need advice.

You should have a good look at the timing belt on that "new" engine. Although well within the recommended distance, it is very long on time. Look for cracks at the inside corners of the teeth.

Re: Air conditioning only blowing on windshield!

Do you have the manual control or automatic temperature controls for the HVAC? It is possible, but not probable, that the problem is in the control unit.

In either case, the way that air is...

Re: Light bulb behind the Odometer burned out....

A shortcut on removing the cluster. You don't need to completely remove the padded panel below the steering wheel. Just pull firmly on the top edge to release the spring catches. The bottom will just...

Re: What is "normal" oil usage...

Switching a high mileage engine from dino to synthetic "may" result in higher oil consumption. The high mileage variety contains something to swell the seals up a bit, intending to make them work...

Re: What is "normal" oil usage...

The L-61 4 cylinder engine has, in my experience, very low oil consumption as normal. The original engine in the LS1 went to 280,000 km (~190,000 mi) with low oil consumption. The current engine is...

Re: help with 2.2 ecotech motor swap

If you are able to compare them side-to-side you should be able to confirm that you will get a physical fit. Be sure to check the AC compressor mountings. You should keep as much "stuff" from you...

Re: help with 2.2 ecotech motor swap

You will likely need to use the old exhaust manifold, as the check valve is probably not the only difference. The other thing you need to check is if the new engine has the proper mounting for the...

Re: No fuel, no fuel gage, no pwr locks....

I had trouble with the passlock system that required "re-calibrating" it. The passlock sensor contains two coded value resistors. Over time the resistance can change/drift, resulting in the voltages...

Re: A/C leak and repairs

AC seems to have about a 12 year life span before all sorts of little leaks develop. I have replaced the condenser and basically all of the lines. The compressor, expansion valve, evaporator, and...

Re: 2000 Saturn LS2 rear strut and spring replacement advice/help?

Having changed rear shocks/struts on several cars now, I have found that the L-Series is actually easier to work on and more durable than those ones. Both my 2000's have original shocks and springs...

Re: Where to buy a Used Tail Lamp Assy

If it isn't too much damage and you aren't too worried about a perfect look you can repair a tail light lens. I used clear 5 minute epoxy. Yes, I know epoxy does degrade in sunlight, but this repair...

Re: 2001 Saturn L200 Wheel Cylinder retaining bolt help?

I am thinking that if it didn't loosen and fall out then it corroded away due to the dissimilar metal combination with the aluminum wheel cylinder. If that happened, then you should look at replacing...

Re: Just replaced front pads on 2000 SWLS

A check of Craigslist or Kijijii shows that dyslexia over these Saturn model designations is very common. At least 10% of the ads will be mis-identified. Auto parts counter people are even worse. I...

Re: Small, expensive fixes for my LW1 2000

While it is likely there is a coolant leak in one of the AC lines, resulting in low pressure that prevents the compressor from engaging (control interlock), there is also the possibility of failure...

Re: P0304 RESOLVED!!!

Congrats on a cheap fix. I recently did coil packs on both of my cars: L-Series - $120, Saab 9-5 - $680 (Canadian prices +$). Eventually it will go. Pull the plugs again in a couple of months to make...

Re: P0304

Most likely the coil pack. These are cheap for the 4 cylinder because they are common with a whole raft of GM cars that use the Ecotec. I had to change mine recently for the same reason. It doesn't...

Re: Just Question about 2001 L200 exhaust manifold

@Frostman- There should be room to go over the rack, but you may have to do some fancy routing and make some heat shields, etc. to keep from cooking/melting things. Have a look on yours.

Re: L300 shimmy

What you are describing is wheel hop. These cars are bad for that. Try changing (increase) the tire pressure to ~35 psi.
