Re: Noisy lifters/ticking noise

Dang, I know that feel. I had a ticking noise that I thought were just the rockers, or at least something in there. I checked the oil and it was super low, filled it up and the ticking was very...

Re: oil in coolant

Just throwing my two cents in here; I purchased a cylinder head from odessa*cylinderhead and I've had absolutely 0 problems with it. Living in Alaska, that was simply the most accessible unit I was...

Re: Front wheel bearing press tool

Yeah, we used one of those sets to replace our front right wheel bearing no problem. Gotta have some big-@#! wrenches though.

Re: Just purchased '93 SC2... SES light issues

No one's responded yet, so I'll just throw these out there. Thermostat maybe? Exhaust leak? I'd honestly try to catch that code (as in forget everything you're doing and go there; IT'S THE ONLY WAY)...

Re: WTF happened here?

Haha, sounds like the exact conditions we had. :P I think cars can predict the weather. They always seem to break down right before the bad weather rolls in.

Yeah, as long as nothing's really...

Re: WTF happened here?

This^^ The first time I ever actually worked on a car was changing the head on my Saturn. Those videos made it easy. It came to around 400-500 with all the gaskets, bolts, oil, tools, etc. and I live...

Re: Whirring that stops when turning

It uhh, definitely seems I have a bad wheel bearing then lol I'll get right on it, thanks guys! So to check it I jack it up and move the wheels, right? Am I looking for play in camber or toe? Or are...

Whirring that stops when turning

My 97 Saturn SL SOHC w 240k miles is whirring pretty loudly once you get past 45/50. The whirring is coming from the front and stops whenever you're turning. It doesn't matter whether you're turning...

Re: 97 SL1: Poor Starting After Driving

Leaving the key in the ON position for a bit seems to do the trick. Still going to look into one of those devices.

Re: 97 SL1: Poor Starting After Driving

I'm pretty sure we changed that when we changed the head. I can't exactly remember now though. Nope, don't have a scanner that can read live data. :/ I have not tried starting it that way. I guess...

Re: 97 SL1: Poor Starting After Driving

Okay; guess we'll just stick to that then, at least until there really is a problem with it lol. Thanks for the help! :)

Re: 97 SL1: Poor Starting After Driving

I had, but it appears my habit of annoyingly specific searching has failed me again.. For some reason I didn't think to only search, "97 sl starting issues." lol So, from what I gathered, it's...

97 SL1: Poor Starting After Driving

The 97 SL1 that we're currently driving is having some starting issues. The car will always start just fine the first time, i.e. after it's been sitting a while. It's usually after at least a hour...

Re: Guys did I ruin my car? What do you think?

Being quite honest, I have to agree with some other posts. I find it a bit excessive. I quite like the paint, but the front bumper.. though I actually like that boxy look for the front end, I think...

Re: For the love of god, don't let it be the head/gasket

Thanks! Sorry I haven't updated in a bit. Everyone at my place got sick but we still managed to pull off the head in our ballin Alaska weather, haha. From what I saw, it looked to be the gasket; it...

Re: For the love of god, don't let it be the head/gasket

Yeah, that should show us where the leak is. Yes, they did warranty it. I don't remember for how long; though, I think it was definitely for more than a year. No, actually I'm not the only driver....

Re: For the love of god, don't let it be the head/gasket

Right, the head was cracked and oil and coolant were mixing. The oil was foaming up and looked, as most say, like a milkshake. We replaced the head and gasket with new parts under a year ago. We...

For the love of god, don't let it be the head/gasket

Let me run a situation past you guys. We have a 97 Saturn SL SOHC that we recently -within the year- changed the head and gasket on. It also experienced the crack on the driver side of the radiator...

Re: Cracked head or block? 97 sl sohc

Hey guys, thanks for the extra assurance. The only reason we got it milled instead of buying a new one was because there was visible warping (not without a straight, of course). Plus, it appeared as...

Cracked head or block? 97 sl sohc

Right, so I'm trying to decide if my car is rocking a cracked block or head. Well, not IF but WHICH. It's not the head gasket (new). It's not a warped head (machined). The knowledge stops there...
