Re: Tecknology & Vehicles How Much is Too Much.?

What is it with Pontiac anyway? My former Bonneville SSEi ate them for lunch. (along with power windows and locks that actuated on their own.. that thing was possessed) Have never replaced them in a...

Re: So, what do you think will be the S-series of 10 years from now?

About the only thing that fails in that engine are the nylon timing chain guides.

Re: Tecknology & Vehicles How Much is Too Much.?

Yep. They'll order one base car to advertise the price, but it'll sit there while the optioned-up versions sell.

It's the intrusive electronics I can do without. ABS, Stability control,...

Re: Good turn on lead spots

Simple way is to grab a DVM or test light and find the always-on battery lead, and the switched ignition lead in the radio harness.
Some cars "blue" is the power antenna connection.

Re: Stumbling

Possible, but an intake leak typically results in a high idle too.
What kind of plugs are you running? What condition are the wires in?
ECTS and/or connector in good shape? Has it been replaced?...

Re: Fusible link

A fusible link is nothing more than a short piece of wire 4 gauges smaller than the wiring it protects, encased in a flameproof jacket.
As long as you get the correct size, they're generic.

Re: Common high mileage issues?

Yep. No fuel hitting the intake valves to clean them.

Cruze does not use DFI, although there is rumor it may in 2013.
Perhaps we should refer to it as a Saturn Astra, lol. Which it likely...

Re: Common high mileage issues?

IMHO the biggest "high mileage" issue is the previous owner. If you can find one who took pride in the car (service records are a big plus) that's a very good indicator. Others will have to answer...

Re: KREEN internal engine cleaner for oil burning, sludge, etc...

After poking around the internet trying to find out exactly what was in the "original" GM top engine cleaner, I ran into several discussions on firearms forums saying that Shooters Choice cleaning...

Here is the Top Engine Cleaner MSDS as of 1989:

Re: Light hesitation and bucking on a 99 SC2

See what the wires do before you worry too much more about it. That was the fix when mine did the same.

Re: Milky Oil - Head Gasket Replacement NEED HELP!

Depends.
If you get a coolant leak into a cylinder you'll have a nicely steam-cleaned piston top. Often whitish exhaust will accompany the leak along with a belching coolant overflow tank.
If...

Re: Reassure the new guy: diff pin?

190,000 on a '96, driven all winter long. No problems.

Guys in shops will see more of them, nobody brings in a perfectly-operating transmission for repairs...and you'll see plenty of discussion...

Re: Check out my new Greenwood Corvette. It's awesome but...

I picked up a pristine '84 vette a few years ago...for $4,500. If you look around you can find quite a bargain. Wheezy is right, the crossfires were perhaps the worst, choking at about 4500 rpm. ...

Re: Diff pin pre failure repair

Pre-2000 Chrysler minivans are a notorious example, lol. They launch the diff pin right through the case, leaving a fist-sized hole, and do it far more frequently than the Saturn. It's getting tough...

Re: Fuel Pump Questions

^^ this.
It's impossible to determine the problem until you start ruling things out. I'd start with fuel pressure, at 150K it's quite possibly time for a fuel pump, but when you price one you'll...

Re: Car failed to start. Flooded? (My 2002 Impala, not SL1)

TY for the heads-up. I did and the readings were acceptable. No sign of valve damage, it appears I lucked out, lol. Did the nylon chain guide break on yours?
I'm looking at another one now with the...

Re: Car failed to start. Flooded? (My 2002 Impala, not SL1)

Reading back through the thread, I see where one sparkplug was pulled (weak spark) and the coil packs were swapped. Not sure if the Ignition module was also swapped? ..or that the OP pulled the...

Re: spark question

If you have the original wires still, I'd consider starting there. Sure, it's entirely possible to have what looks like good spark yet have misfires.

Re: Car failed to start. Flooded? (My 2002 Impala, not SL1)

While you are waiting, do you see any sign of fuel at the vacuum fitting on the pressure regulator? How about with the key on & fuel line pressurized?

You can check fuel pressure with the key on...

Re: Car failed to start. Flooded? (My 2002 Impala, not SL1)

When you initially turn the key on a 3.4, the injectors all fire a shot of fuel regardless of the CPS. The injectors are then turned off for the next 2 crank revolutions, with the assumption that...

Re: Car failed to start. Flooded? (My 2002 Impala, not SL1)

The front plugs are, from left to right: 2-4-6 and the rear: 1-3-5
The terminals on the coil packs are numbered, and should be: 5-2-3-6-4-1
from left to right, as viewed from the front of the car....
