My 96 SL1 had knock from 1/8Ē of carbon buildup on top of the Pistons from oil burning. No amount of chemicals ever removed it. Iíve done everything from combustion chamber cleaner to a 50cc nozzle...

There are two tamper proof bolts you must remove with a vice grip with the key in on. After you remove those two screws the entire lock portion can be worked on on a bench and then purchase new...

Itís also time for a serpentine belt. Iím not seeing a 778 Belt on napa or autozone. NApa belt length is 76.255Ē and autozone is 75.5Ē for AC and power steering.

A 300,000 mile clutch gives me piece of mind.

My scangauge shows map as PSIA which I think is his parameter also, buy my ignition advance has never been at the upper 40ís. however, Iím cruising in the 1200rpm to 2200rpm range and not at 3000....

Besides his rpm at 50 being way high for top gear, his in gear idle rpm is too high also like he has the intake manifold seal problem. And if his idle rpm is in park itís still higher than it should...

I always have ignition advance displayed on my scangauge. Light throttle cruising at 50 is 31 to 33 ignition advance.

It will go down to 18-25 degrees advance doing 1/4 to 1/2 throttle...

Any detected slip will also have the pcm relearning the shiftpressuresfor the clutch packs. When I did the head modification on my old 96 the first drive had it slamming gears relearning the line...
