Re: Brake issues..

Definitely seems high. It is less than $50 worth of parts to replace all 4 hard lines. I've done it a few times. I am not surprised that the lines have rusted and failed.

Re: Your opinions on the performance switch on equipped auto S-series?

Re: Annual Angst

I don't totally disagree with you fdryer. If you are paying someone to do the work, a new car will win out sooner or later. I'm personally less concerned with datlas and his wife than my own kids,...

Re: Annual Angst

Amen! I just bought $250 worth of parts for the '99 and will need to spend another $100 for alignment when we are done. Money well spent!

Re: Rear drum backing plate swap (what years fit)

I know of no way to search one thread. Of course we are interested - this sort of thing is why we are here! Backing plates on my '98 are trash.

Re: Rebuilding 96 dohc

Three holes per side is way better than zero. Seems good to me.

My machine shop evaluated my crank, bore, deck, and head. My crank was not turned down, I just got new bearings. My bores had taper...

Re: Rebuilding 96 dohc

I think Lowe's Depot still sells MEK. Besides being death on a Ritz, it is a very good solvent.

Re: Rebuilding 96 dohc

Chris,
Do a little searching on the forum. The short of it is the oil is able to drain back into the engine rather than coking up an immobilizing the rings. That is what causes saturns to use oil. ...

Nice! Are you going to drill holes in the oil control ring slot?

Edit: new pistons are nice too.

Re: Steel/zinc bolts and nuts OK for exhaust?

It would, cad plating would be better than the Chinese hardware. Not sure it would be as good as stainless. Of course you can buy stainless AN/MS hardware. Aircraft Spruce is a good source....

Re: 99 SL2 rebuild thread

Re: Clutch slipping - how long do I have?

Good question, I'm debating that myself. We are going to replace the clutch in our '99 during winter break. When we rebuilt the car a couple years ago they took a couple thou off the flywheel as it...

Re: Clutch slipping - how long do I have?

Most likely it will go quickly. Slipping makes for more wear which makes for more slipping.
