Re: Manual Fan cooling switch mod burned up today!

If you're going to tap into the load side of the relay your entire new run HAS to be able to hold the 30+ amp load of the radiator fan. Looks like you failed to realize this and...

Re: 1996 SL2 engine/trans into 1995 SC1

Keep the '96 exhaust up to the catalytic converter
plug the rear O2 port (leave sensor in if you like)
pull the '95 harness off the SOHC and reattach to the DOHC (swap the knock sensor)
drill &...

Re: SC2 top end mods for fuel economy

You might try looking at the specs listed on, in "Tech Articles" and search on I know I've seen them posted on DifferentRacing's site at least and 6s has enough...

Re: 97/98/99 sl changes

ABS/TC has no impact on 5spd swaps.

If you want to put the non-ABS MC in you have to change the fittings on the lines (or find adapters). Most people just pull the fuse.

Re: Cranks but won't start

Test fuel pressure while cranking as well, it should drop some but if it goes below 44psi @ 12.4-12.8v it's out of spec (should still start though). Not sure what the minimum starting fuel pressure...

Re: Potential project car

Fixed lol

Click but no engine cranking is usually the starter but can also indicate a battery with low charge or corroded cables. If you'd rather test parts to verify they're working/not-working...

Re: 94/95 sl2 for sale

Check the normal spots for rust; the driver side cradle, the rear door sills, the rear trailing arm mounts. Check for worn out parts (I've been known to bring a floor jack with me), push buttons,...

Re: Swapping a 97 sc2 dohc into a sohc s chassis??? How?

To put a '96-'99 DOHC into a '96-'99 swap engines, PCM and exhaust from the engine to the cat-con. That's all, if it's a 5spd. If it's an automatic you also have to swap to the DOHC's...

Re: Driving on Ice

If you're actually sliding on ice, about all you can do is cry unless you have studded tires and even then crying is only marginally less effective.

If you're sliding on anything else (and best to...

Re: Valve body replacement - drop transmission?

Huh...sounds like they're reading from the same strange book that tells people to remove the front passenger wheel to replace the alternator and do an oil change :dizzy:

Only "big" parts that need...

Re: 1998 SL2 Both Tail Lights Only Not Working

IIRC the taillights have a tendency to corrode the sockets. The wires should be self-healing, so sticking a pin into each one near the socket and measuring voltage at the wire shouldn't be a problem...

Re: Engine/Transmission swaps

The transmission's are fairly light, 60-90lbs (autos on the higher side, manuals on the lower). Plenty of room in the cabin for a couple of 'em, along with an engine (though the lighter SOHC's are...

Re: Engine/Transmission swaps

If it were me, the engine & trans would come out the top and a DOHC 5spd with dual intake cams would be going back in. Pull the harness from the PCM to engine bay, worry about the rest of the...

Re: Replacing thermostat is there a housing gasket?

Everything I could find said my old '94 Cavalier 2.2L required a 195f thermostat, so when it was running very hot I replaced it and everything else with another 195f 'stat. Stupid thing still ran hot...

Re: New Saturn parts car i guess

To add/replace anything inside the doors you have to take the outer skin off. When the car is new or not lived in the rust belt this is a fairly simple task...otherwise you're better off cutting the...

Re: Can't shift out of Park...anyone have pic of solenoid?

Might be possible to unplug, but the style of connector is a giant PITA even when it's out in the open and easy to get to (attached). If she can see the wires cutting is an option but I DO NOT...

Re: 95 Sl2

1995 was the first year of the updated cluster, dash and center console for every model. '96 SL and SW's got the full 2nd gen update while SC's got it in '97.

You won't like the mouse belts in...

People are usually able to get it to complete by doing a cold start, then a 30-45min highway run. Helps to have a OBD II reader of some sort with you so you can check which monitors...

Re: Electrical Issues, Dies after Starting Sometimes, Hot Battery Cable at Fuse Box

Don't go over the 11ft/lb torque spec on the side post terminals of doom or you'll end up replacing the battery because the terminal stripped out. Check the bolt fitment as well, if it has too much...
