Re: Pretty sweet deal on an 06 Ion. Need some guidance

After operating a truck-like clutch in my mustang, operating the clutch on my wife's ION was like driving a toy. It only took me a week of driving it regularly for it to feel second nature to me,...

Re: Best Bullet Proof Steering Shaft ???

It's funny you mention that. I was just about to chime in to say I used dry teflon chain lube for bikes.

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

I ended up leaving the lines exposed. The shielding is likely the reason why it rotted in that spot in the first place.

Re: Occasional hesitation: what are likely causes?

When you say hesitation, does it feel like a misfire? If so, then perhaps a spark plug or coil.

You may also want to clean your throttle body (but do a search around here for idle reset).

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

Glad I could help. This job is one of those things that can be so frustrating, but once you do it and see the trick behind these little hiccups, you could do it again in a few hours.

Feel free...

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

So after more hours of cursing, I'm finally done with this job.

I ended up having to take off the lines2go line attached to their fuel filter because nothing was releasing the filter. I tried...

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

Lol gremlins indeed.

It's mated to the line via the usual coupling that requires the AC/Fuel line tool to remove. I don't have a picture, but there doesn't appear to be anything obviously...

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

Okay. It took me all friggin day to do what should have been a 2-3 hour job, but I finally got the new lines in. And guess what? Fuel is leaking at the fuel filter.

The lines2go set includes a...

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

Nevermind. I finally got em.

The trick is to stick a small flathead to open the tab in the middle of the clip (to the right of the brake lines) and force the clip open, dropping the whole set of...

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

I am so frustrated. How the heck do you remove these stupid plastic clips that line up both fuel lines and both brake lines?

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

Thanks for the great ideas. It looks like I'll skip the heat shielding, and won't bother with treating the lines with any sort of corrosion product if they already come pre-treated.

Re: Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

Thanks for the great advice.

Dan, that's an interesting conjecture regarding the heat shielding being the cause of the corrosion. As you might have guessed, my leak appears to be coming from...

Advice from those who have done the fuel line replacement

I'm the latest example of what's become a common problem with our IONs: Rusty fuel lines. My wife recently started smelling gasoline and sure enough the lines were wet on the driver side in front...

Re: Rear Shoes Won't Stay Adjusted Right

Ha! Agreed. My first car had drum brakes and I always hated how much of a puzzle they were, but they never failed me.

I'll take a closer look to make sure nothing is installed incorrectly. ...

Re: Rear Shoes Won't Stay Adjusted Right

Since I did one wheel at a time, I'm certain they were not interchanged. Also, the driver side is functioning perfectly.

Regarding reassembly, IIRC there didn't seem to be an obvious way to...

Rear Shoes Won't Stay Adjusted Right

Hi all,

A few months ago I replaced the worn OEM brake shoes with little difficulty. I followed the usual adjustment procedure by ratcheting the star, etc. I noticed over time that the brakes...

Re: should i be concerned (leak)

I agree with Ruley. I just replaced one of my seals when I accidentally scuffed one while replacing my CV axles.

I highly recommend you get the plastic install sleeve (part # 44-394) to protect...

Re: Why do my wheel bearings/hubs keep going bad?

I can totally see studs failing. However, the studs were in perfect shape in every hub that I replaced

Re: Why do my wheel bearings/hubs keep going bad?

Well that is damn interesting. Thank you for sharing that

I don't see any obvious cause for a bad ground on my ION, but I'll keep a close eye out for one.

Re: 07 ion 2 4dr sedan driver power window

Try wiggling the rubber boot that runs through the fender area into the door. This is where all of the wires run though and sometimes they fray. You may just have to fix a wire there.

Re: Why do my wheel bearings/hubs keep going bad?

My biggest disappointment in my wife's ION is how frequency it craps out wheel bearings. In less than 100k miles, I am on my third right side bearing/hub and second left side. ACDelco, Timken, and...

Re: Mystery Noise is Driving ME NUTS Pls HELP!

I second the intermediate steering shaft suggestion. This is a very weak part on these cars.

Mine was giving me a sticky steering feel, so I loosened it up with a little pb blaster, then somehow...

Re: Rhythmic knocking/thumping sound while in motion

A fair point. Skilled labor, wherever in the world it may be, is not without its price. I'm sure this $150 hub could easily cost over $200 in the hands of expert machinists who have a much higher...
