These pins replace the stock pin, no drilling required. Add a little extra peace of mind. Knock old pin out, install new one.

It was whatever FP gasket Rock Auto says fits my car. A bright blue one.

after further review, I used a razor blade and cut off the tabs. Some RTV on the valve cover to hold in place. Onward onward....

I bought a Fel Pro VS 50701 R from Rock Auto, which is what is listed for my 97 SOHC.

This is what I got- what are the little tab thingies? Wrong part? Or am I missing something.....

When you put the reverse gear on its shaft upside-down, despite having taken photos :rolleyes:, you will have problems.

Well, in looking at before photos I took, I see the MAGNET I forgot to install, setting on the workbench. So I have to pull it apart anyway. :(

Starting a new thread due to new problems....

Spent hours trying to put the case onto the bell housing today.

It would stop with about 3/4 inch to go. A definite mechanical stop. Kept pulling...

Yes, removed the large C ring before removing larger axle seal.
Had to tap around circumference of new seal, to seat the C ring.

Years ago, I replaced a leaking head gasket on my 77 Rabbit. Simply installed a new one and got lucky....

PROGRESS....

Tapped out old, and installed new stronger Diff Pin. Old one was intact! 190,000 miles! A life without spinning wheels in snow, or jackrabbit starts etc.

Installed 2 axle seals....

The trick is to cut a washer (along any radius) and insert above the red handle, to take up slack. Sorry no pic at the moment.

If it's still cool when you take on this repair, a heat gun will help to dry out the sheet metal gaps. I was lucky, the January I did this we had 70 and sunny days down here in LA.

From Haynes, it looks like you carefully pry out old ones, tap in new ones, maybe with help of a tool from AAP? Or do you press them out and in.

Yes sir, I explained the Loctite 620 and how the alum. case is fragile and how heat is needed to remove old shaft. He is familiar with the procedure.
