Re: 1996 sl2 automatic transmission wiring diagram

Thank you sooooooo much! I am swapping a manual for an automatic.

My wife won't learn stick, so I am making the conversion for her.

Wish me luck!

Re: 97 Saturn starts but won't turn over

You can check for bad fuel injector with multimeter. Just check the resistance on each of the injectors. I forget what the number is supposed to be, but if you have one way different from the other...

Re: 2 separate issues - ideas?

My bad. I've only worked on DOHC's and I forgot that the spark plug mounting is totally different.

Re: The correct clutch kit to install?

According to Autozone the clutches that fit into the 97 and 02 year Saturns are different......

Personally, I'd go to the Auto parts place and have the pull out both clutch sets. Look at them...

Re: Help! 99 saturn sw2 laid down on me tonight

I am glad you got it fixed!

ICM makes sense since it's subjected to all the heat/vibration from the engine. And since it controls both coil packs.

P.S. Glad you didn't follow my...

Re: Heavy duty struts needed

You might want to replace the front struts while you are at it. Your car will handle a lot better and it's stopping distance will be much better. Having good struts makes your ride much better at...

Re: 2 separate issues - ideas?

I've had problems with a rough idle / loosing gas milage with a leaking cam-cover gasket. The seals around the spark plugs tend to go first, then the oil pools on top of the spark plugs, eventually...

Re: 1994 sc1 possible buyer concerns

I think you did good skipping the 94 sl1. Those cars are notorious for having cracked heads around the 4th cylinder. Something to do with the design of the SOHC engine.

I haven't heard of any...

Re: 2001 Saturn SL1 Bad Trans?

I recommend you check the continuity of your solder job with a multimeter. Each wire should have less than 1 Ohm of resistance through the solder joint.

Good luck!

Re: Help! 99 saturn sw2 laid down on me tonight

Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal and letting the car sit for about 10min, then reconnecting it?

This process "resets" the car's computer system. It's fixed a rough idle...

Re: Help! 99 saturn sw2 laid down on me tonight

You might consider taking the valve-cover off and inspecting the timing chain/guides and engine top.

I wonder why this problem started so suddenly, and why the engine isn't throwing any codes.

Re: cat. question

If your goal is to improve airflow in/out of the engine you might want to consider replacing your paper air filter with a K&N air filter. I personally use the standard K&N filter.

Also, I've...

Re: Anyone replacing their upper dogbone mount?

I have been able to match bolts at the Hardware store, Home Depot or Lowe's.

What I did is unscrew an identical bolt from somewhere nearby in the engine, then take it in. I recommend talking to a...

Re: Driving at elevated temp for long periods of time

Yup, having the gauge bounce between 1/2 and 3/4 is completely normal.

If the temperature gauge goes into the red and your engine starts overheating. (Which probably won't happen) then address the...

Re: Car Jerking/Jumping

You asked earlier if it was "normal" to see a bunch of coolant around the radiator after the mechanic does a radiator replacement.

This could happen if your mechanic does not drain the coolant...

Re: cat. question

Without the CAT the exhaust going into your muffler will be "dirtier". The exhaust entering your muffler will now contain the extra oxygen as well as the contaminates the CAT was supposed to clean...

Re: MP2 swap & mpg

Good point about not wanting to drop the trany again. The swap actually was a lot more work than I expected.

My most surprising part was that I had to buy a $50 pulley set to hoist my engine and...

Re: Newly aquired 1995 SL1 needs some love!

2 Things:

Rusted Rotors: Surface rust should get rubbed off on it's own by the brakes pads.

Different wheel size: If you change the wheel size it will throw off your speedometer. I don't...

Re: MP2 swap & mpg

I also really like the 5th gear. It keeps the RPMS at 2000 while I'm going 60.

Re: MP2 swap & mpg

I have a 1995 SL2 with 190,000 miles on it.

Swapped in an MP2 from a 1999 SL1 I found at the junkyard for $60.

Improved my average City+Highway MPG from 28 to 32.

Cruise Control still works....
