Re: 2008 Astra XR 4-Door, Rough Idle & Error Codes

It is possible that your timing belt tensioner has failed & the timing belt has jumped a tooth. A friend of mine had that occur on his Astra at 80k. His Astra sounded like a diesel at idle while the...

Re: Transmission Issues?

I got my fluid analysis back yesterday and it was NOT good!

The metal levels are 2.75 to nearly...

Re: New K&N Setup

I think Weeman is stating that he spent $40 on the cone filter he bought, which is not this K&N kit.

Re: Transmission Issues?

I just changed the transmission fluid on my Astra at 55k this weekend and the fluid was very dark brown, nearly the color of used motor oil. There was not even the slightest hint of red, even when I...

Re: Headlight crazing

Yes, the headlights on mine have exactly what you're describing. I had attributed mine to getting some GooGone like stuff on the headlights while removing some decals. However, I have seen a number...

Re: Extreme condensation and ICE inside the car?

This is what I immediately thought of, having been through it with another car. I would recommend the original poster keep any eye on your coolant level to make sure you don't have a heater core...

Re: P0014 exhaust camshaft position timing over advanced bank 1

Thanks for the update on this; I apologize if I led you astray with the screw out comment. I had not actually done this work myself, but had seen it referenced as "screw out" on the UK Astra forums...

Re: Internal Fault on Baffles in Intake Manifold

The powertrain warranty (5 years/100K miles) on these cars does transfer to the new owners, so if you are still in the years/mileage window, you should have it. I can't vouch for if this fault is...

Re: Astra Front Wheel Hub Replacement

Glad to hear that you got it covered under warranty!! I was just thinking about this post last week as one of my rear wheel bearings is starting to growl a touch.

Re: P0014 exhaust camshaft position timing over advanced bank 1

Doc, having had this problem a number of times with my Astra, I can tell you that once the cam sticks in the "advanced: position, you will have no power whatsoever taking off from a light, and I do...

Re: Transmission Issues?

That TSB that Astra08 posted is for the 4T80, which is not the auto in the Astra. Taht transmission is only found in H-bodies, like the Pontiac Bonneville.

However, the first place I'd start with...

You are correct; that was us! :) I've been so darn busy since that event that I haven't had a chance to update this thread. I enjoyed chatting with you as well, especially learning about you...

Re: Best high performance all season tires for the factory 18 inch wheels

I've got the DWS on my car and love them. Handling in dry & wet conditions are great. In the snow, they are fairly good; I would rate them towards the top of the various all seasons I've had over...

Re: Factory rim compatibility

That resource you posted from has all kinds of wrong information! The 4 lug Cobalts have a 4x110 pattern & the SS have a 5x110. I disagree with the listed bore size for the Astra as well.

Re: Failed Front Motor Mount

Nope, I was not getting any noise at all that I would consider abnormal. The only reason I looked at it was that I was thinking about upgrading it to polyurethane.

This is definitely NOT...

Failed Front Motor Mount

So I was changing the oil on the Astra this weekend and decided to take a close look at the front engine mount as I am considering making a polyurethane bushing to replace the stock rubber insert. ...

Re: Autocross Update

I used to autocross my 04 Impala SS, so I know all about the woes of autocrossing an W Body. :dizzy: I agree with your G stock classing. You're going to have way more HP on tap than needed,...

Re: Engine lack of power with DTCs P0011, P0014, P000A, P000B, P0012, P0015 or engine

You need to get someone from GM corporate involved since the reason for the dealer charging you is "the screens weren't there". That is complete crap since there is a TSB that specifically lists...

Re: Autocross Update

IMO, nothing can touch the HS Mini right now, especially since the JCW suspension is legal to add to it. Even the SVT Focus isn't really a competitor to it, despite having 50 more HP (roughly...

Re: Looking at an Astra XR coupe...

One other piece of information that hasn't been mentioned yet is that the 1.8L engine (Z18XER) is actually now used in the Cruze & Sonic so engine parts shouldn't be an issue. Most consumable parts...

Re: Looking at an Astra XR coupe...

Like any car, the Astra has its share of issues, but none are too bad to deal with. The rear shocks on the coupes seem to fail earlier than one would expect and the front sway bar end links tend to...

I use that exact dongle with my Astra & Torque and it works flawlessly. It can pull live data as well as reading and resetting codes

Not sure exactly what is going on with your transmission, but...
