Re: Auto slam in DRIVE and reverse

I feel like a newB... what does "ISN" stand for?

My 98 shifts harsh into drive and reverse from park. Doesn't really bother me too much, but if something minor is causing it that's easily fixable...

Re: replacing serp belt

A used one from the junk yard from a car that only had 50k miles on it ;) Original DCV-11G unit. Super clean compressor. Works great!

Re: replacing serp belt

I must be the only one that slides it over the smooth idler pulley lol.

Just did it today (ac compressor replacement). I put a 14mm closed end wrench on the tensioner pulley, lock a 15mm wrench...

Re: AC compressor rebuild DIY?

The only difference that I see at a glance is the A has a pigtail on the clutch plug? My G has the plug solidly on the compressor at the clutch.

Part of me is tempted to just put the old...

Re: AC compressor rebuild DIY?

My original is coded DCV11G. I wonder how much of a difference there is when it comes to the seals between the A and the G?

AC compressor rebuild DIY?

So I know that this isn't an option that anyone would recommend... and I'm not even sure if I would be able to pull it off myself to be honest lol

The original compressor in my SL2 started leaking...

Re: headlight/DRL wiring questions with adding aftermarket lights

Maybe that's what I did. It was a while back so I really do not remember... I followed a how-to here on the forum.

While we're on the subject, is there a way to trick the system (like the relay...

Re: headlight/DRL wiring questions with adding aftermarket lights

Or, you could disable the DRL function. Then the high beams will only be on when you turn them on, then you could simply wire the relay to one of the high beam bulbs to have it trigger it. I did...

Re: AC system rebuild flunk

Yeah the one in my 04 Blazer is also a junkyard find. It looked like it was also recently installed and it works GREAT in that truck. Been installed for a little over 2 years now without a hitch. So...

Re: AC system rebuild flunk

Well it wasn't the TXV... Swapped it out today, vacuumed, and then started to recharge the system. Ended up with the same result basically. With just a single 12oz can in it, I was getting about 50...

Re: AC system rebuild flunk

Yeah I figured it was a gamble using the salvage yard compressor, but seeing that it looked nearly new, I was willing to take the chance.

Being that I DO already have another TXV on hand, I'm...

Re: AC system rebuild flunk

Honesty, both require about the same amount of work in my opinion... The belt has to come off for the compressor, which I've found is rather difficult in these cars lol, but other than that it's just...

AC system rebuild flunk

So I spent most of today rebuilding the AC system in my 98 SL2. Replaced the compressor, condenser, drier, and TXV. Not my first rodeo with AC system rebuilds, have done a handful and have generally...

Re: Fun stuff

Not at all.

Before these I had 225/50/16's, they DID rub at full lock, a lot...

The 225's were also very twitchy while driving... just too wide for the car and it's light weight... drives a LOT...

Re: Fun stuff

Just the wheels and tires, 16x7.5 wheels and 205/55 tires.

That picture was taken right after I lowered it off the jack stands. The suspension relaxed and lowered just a little after the first...

Fun stuff

Just love when I dive into a simple project and it snowballs lol. Went in to replace some noisy front brake pads and toss on a set of wheels and tires I recently acquired on my 98 SL2. Ended up...

Re: TPS brand?

I do plan on at least pulling the throttle body off and giving it and the IACV a good cleaning with carb cleaner before I just replace the TPS. I'm aware that a sticking IACV could very well be the...

TPS brand?

What brand replacement TPS is everyone using that's reliable for their 2nd gen? And part number too if you have it?

My 98 has been having an intermittent high idle in park or neutral for a while...

Re: 02 sc1 aftermarket wheels

If it helps at all, I'm running 225/50/16 on my 98 SL2 with minor rubbing on the plastic inner liners only when at full lock left or right.

225/50/16 - 24.86" tall, 8.86" wide
205/55/16 - 24.88"...

Re: Another AC issue. Expansion valve stuck open???

Well I've got everything sitting in the garage now to do the complete overhaul. Compressor, condenser, drier, expansion valve, high and low port valves, o-ring kit, oil, refrigerant. Nothing stopping...

Re: Another AC issue. Expansion valve stuck open???

I'm pretty competent when it comes to AC repair jobs. Have my own manifold gauge set and a vacuum pump, and if the system isn't already completely empty from a leak, I've just used our recovery...

Another AC issue. Expansion valve stuck open???

So my 98 SL2 sat in the driveway for almost 4 months (tag expired, I just took my time renewing it...). Before I parked it, everything was working great, AC blowing ice cold.

Now after getting...

Drove it for the first time in nearly 4 months :xeye: Been sitting in the driveway with an expired tag that I've been too lazy to take care of... when you have 2 other vehicles to drive, sometimes...
