Re: Tracking down a coolant leak

Do not add a ' stop leak' product.
The water pump has weep holes but that drips down onto the frame (?) and can be hard to spot.
The drain plug could leak.
The hoses may leak, or just where the...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

OK, great, was hoping it was acceptable to just pull from the reservoir/tank, I didn't know how likely it is to contaminate it that way.

I used the turkey baster to do my PS fluid but found it...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

It was supposed to be a flush, and the new fluid is clear.
Thanks, I hadn't considered heating effect.
How do I correct the level?

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

I only had the brake+ABS light come on once, it has not repeated. I am bearing in mind this may indicate a failing alternator and am going to keep an eye on battery voltage since I couldn't figure...

Re: question on SL2 fuel filter

I think the best you are likely to get out of a complaint to the shop is that they would put a new filter on, if they even agreed they used the wrong part originally.

Re: Bluetooth OBD II adapter with an on/ off switch

An alternative to modding the ELM with a switch, is to use an OBD extension cable with a switch. I'd seen the plain extension cables before, but it just occured to me that they might also come in a...

Re: 98 saturn SL2 transmission issues

An ELM327 device that plugs into the OBDii port can be had for around $10.
Those cheap ones come with a rep for being sketchy for longevity. The BAFX brand is likely to be a step up in quality (and...

Re: Starter motor

the starter on my '99 failed last year, mileage around 76K.
(with much forum help), I replaced it with the DB electric unit, and it has been good for over a year.

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

Oh no, I take responsibility for wandering off.

ABS codes/live data: I use torque which reads OBD and have an innova 3130, I don't think either does ABS info.
If the ABS is not currently...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

really hard to hold 2 probes with one hand, somehow I pulled it off!

pics are engine OFF.
engine ON shows 31.0vac (031mV) and 14.7vdc at the battery terminals.
Torque app reports 13.7vdc, so...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

Yes, i should have clarified.
My HF meter differs from that photo because the 2 range settings for vac are 250 and 200, included manual confirms it's not a typo. It's hard to hold the probes and a...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

That's a great idea and I will put a fresh battery in this DVM. As I see people on YouTube with the same results as me, I feel like this is a comprehension issue.

I'm also picking up a...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

I was just trying to clarify which pic was 1st, counting from the left as opposed to right.

Double checked the meter and it reads 00.0 VAC until I connect the probes to battery, and it definitely...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

I get what you are saying, and I do generally agree. This HF unit was really meant to be an inexpensive unit to keep in the trunk, but it did test reasonably close to my other dvm (which is MIA at...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

Yes, first one on left.

I have been measuring at the battery terminals as the alternator appears hard to access.
Just checked at battery with engine OFF , reads 26VAC. YouTube says I'm not the...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

Just tried the same measurement on my other vehicle . First time I got 0, but repositioned the probes and ended up with 30vAC... So I guess I am doing something wrong. This vechicle is 8ish years old...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

Also, I read that a load test would indicate a bad diode, is that correct?

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

To confuse myself more, I checked the battery voltage again. It was 12.47 an hour after I charged it today. In the past I think the general pattern is that it charges to 12.8 - 13v and then after...

And more questions, of course.
Have driven it a bunch and the brake light has not come on and car has operated normally. I had some other stuff to deal with, so I've just got to looking at...

Re: ABS + BRAKE light

If I dislodged some dirt during the wash I would have expected it to show up at the start of my drive, as opposed to later? Or did it eventually work its way to the sensor? As I said, I don't know...

Re: Scanguage type devices

everything :) I was looking for a free alternative to torque. I guess it's OK, but I cannot get a battery voltage, and I tried 2 diff. BAFX modules.

And yes, I've heard that the cheaper ELMs can...

Re: Scanguage type devices

I use an ELM plug in and connect to android device with bluetooth. I use the BAFX branded one for about $20. Then you need an app, torque light is free.

I have a scangauge and was never clever...

ABS + BRAKE light

ODO reads 77,177.
Lucky 7s, almost?

Yesterday, I hosed off the car to remove road salt. I gave the wheel wells a good spray. Garaged it for the night.

Today I prolly drove it 10+miles and...
