Hint of oil in reservoir could be from oil going into the coolant passenges during the rebuild or residue from the ginger root pellets they used to use in the coolant from the factory.

the clutch disc on the 2000 is different than the 97. it requires either the 2000 flywheel or cutting the center area of the 97.Not sure if this is your problem but is food for thought.
