Re: 3.5L valve adjustment

They tighten because over time the exhaust seats regress into the aluminum head. This doesn't happen appreciably in old iron stuff.
Every 3.5L I have adjusted has needed at least a few exhaust...

The Flashing 3.5l Vue Fix.

Now the weather is cold again I have just repaired another of these, so it's worth while posting for those that haven't run across this before.
In cold weather, below 25F or so, the vehicle starts...

Re: Bad Brake Rotor Challenge

I've had chain store rotors on larger pickups that have cracked either radially, right up the disk, or all around the disk to hub area. Seized calipers where the inside pad is gone and the piston...

Bad Brake Rotor Challenge

Post 'em if you've got 'em.
Spotted this beauty at the local Pick n pull yesterday.
I guess the owner liked to have the radio cranked up loud.

Re: Need a battery

Be cautious about shopping based on CCA's. For a given battery size and type higher CCA usually means thinner plates and insulators. I have seen more internal failures of high capacity batteries...

Re: Dashboard lifting fix?

Well, at least the Saturn dash gap isn't as bad as what happens with Dodge trucks.

Re: Drum to Disc Parts

You should also check to see if the master cylinder and/or booster have to be changed to 4 wheel disc versions, or if you have to swap in ABS. The proportioning is different from 2 wheel disc / 2...

Re: Dashboard lifting fix?

Glad I'm not the only one bothered by this.
I took the dash cover off my SC to do some other work and reinstalled it very carefully. This cut the gap by 2/3s, but still left 1/3 to annoy me.

Re: Thermostat Issue?

Sounds normal to me. Do you have the cabin heater running full blast? The heater core is a secondary radiator that's not regulated by the thermostat. In cold weather there is more than enough...

Re: 2nd Gear 'Sneeze'

Check the exhaust hangers, mounts, and muffler strap. The muffler can vibrate against the frame under engine torque movement making interesting sounds that get amplified by the trunk floor.

Re: trans shifts hard

This is completely incorrect. As stated before the MAF will give bad data long before it throws a code. Codes are set for signal high, signal low, and data out of range by 8:1 at idle. In between...

Re: Coil packs seem to hot

Off hand I would say the coils running hot is a symptom not a cause. It sounds like the plug wires are not being fully seated on the plugs. This results in effectively increasing the spark gap and...

Re: trans shifts hard

Have the MAF scanned for correct readings. A bad MAF will cause the hard shift long before it throws codes.
The transmission computer uses the MAF reading to determine engine load and shift points....

Collecting Saturns?
You mean intentionally? No not really. Although I am looking for another vue for the winter. Just sold a cherry L300 so I am justified in another SC if a low mile one pops up....

Re: Hyundai Veloster

Ish.
Not a fan of either the grouper mouth grills or the limited rear and side visibility.
I wonder how many of these end up in body shops with rear quarter damage.

Re: 2002 SL2 auto transmission issues

A good start would be to check the solenoid resistances. This can be done at the valve body connector or between the fuse box and ECM connector.

Re: Honest 3.0 AWD transmission fluid advice sought

Cheap ketchup or mustard squeeze bottles with the long tip work well to fill through dipstick tubes. They are also handy to fill brake and power steering reservoirs without spilling.

Re: Are New Quarter Panels Available?

FWIW, a cost effective way to ship large body parts is by Greyhound bus. Depot to depot pickup.

Re: Slight Shake with New Brakes

All else being equal it sounds like resin transfer onto the rotors. With new pads and, possibly oil on the new rotors, you can get glazing if you make a hard or long stop and then sit at a light with...

Re: SC2 Paint Code

Should be code 40, WA9563.
Best to color match to the old hood, being 17 years old and all.
