Re: Rear main seal

OldNuc nailed this once again!

VC gasket was installed last year, per fsm instructions.

Only putting a dab of rtv at the tcc joints and using a felpro gasket set.

Guess it's time to take...

Rear main seal

Let me give you some background.

Rebuilt this 99 engine a year ago, using the fsm as a guide. It developed an oil leak early on. Suspicions were high that it was the rear main.

Instead of...

Re: Lopey idle with ac running

Nice. Thanks for great leads.

I know almost nothing when it comes to A.C. systems.

With what uluz says, it sounds like the ac clutch should stay engaged during idle....no on and off rapid...

Re: Lopey idle with ac running

Exactly

I should add that once i start going again, say light turns green and its still acting up at idle...once the wheels get moving again(in gear), it "seems" fine.

Re: Lopey idle with ac running

Fdryer

200? To 900 rpms repeatedly means:

In neutral, the idle bounces back and forth between 200ish and 900, several times.

Sometimes the idle will find itself....othertimes its jumping...

Lopey idle with ac running

Havent posted on here for a while so here it goes the scenario.

Start car, turn ac on, blows cold (constantly), idle is perfect. Start driving-which seems normal. Put in neutral for a stop and...

Re: O2 sensor woes.

Fdryer, wow! I had to reread that a couple of times.

Ok, so I put the sohc PCM in and ran it long enough to see that there's still a cl-fault. (Ran bad, in case anybody is wondering). Put dohc...

Re: O2 sensor woes.

Close.... If I decide to yank and run 3g dohc wiring....I'll be upsetting the map sensor wiring/connection. If I get to that bridge, I'll cross it then.

Ok, so sohc PCM is on the agenda. What's...

Re: O2 sensor woes.

The 99 had zero error codes in the 99 body.
The 2000 had zero error codes with the sohc.
The error code didn't pop up right away after swapping things.

This Frankenstein is fresh meat. 30...

Re: O2 sensor woes.

I need to verify the most major concern...

Will not go into closed loop. Scan tool reads cl error.

O2 sensor woes.

Idk where to begin, so I'll start with p0038, heater circuit high. I changed the rear O2 bc the threads stripped on original sensor.

Replaced it with an o'reillys Bosch direct fit-for the 2000,...

Re: Starting to get into all the small details

Ok. So just updating since it's been a while. Got the bottom end done. I did plasigauge every bearing. While the numbers are written in the garage, and I'm not there, they were on the high side, but...

Re: Starting to get into all the small details

Whoa. Let's go back a chapter and get on same page. 😂

Short version of story is

I'm going to be using the heavy crank with .50mm undersize bearings.

I was bummed they didn't wanna...

Re: Starting to get into all the small details

Waiex I'm so grateful you brought that topic up.

Called m s today to let him know I'm sending Pistons over. I kinda felt bad asking him if he knows what a plateau finish is. He said he did and...

Just to update, got the Pistons today.

Will bring them to m s Monday. Hope to get answers on that crankshaft.

Re: Transmission Play, 5spd SL2

All my cars do that. Even with new flywheel/clutch kits. The only one that won't do as much it is the 01 and that has an older transmission in it. (Higher miles)

The trick is to ease off and into...

Re: Starting to get into all the small details

Those visuals really helped to clear some of this smoke.

Yeah... My bottom end, was the 3g crank with 2g windage tray, no extras.

That got deep real quick.

Good call.

Re: Starting to get into all the small details

Let's talk about this head some more.

Machinist says the exhaust valve seats are a little wide, like somebody put a stone on it and went at it.

He also says not to worry about it and it's not...

Re: Starting to get into all the small details

Ok. I'm cluster confused.

The crank that came out of that engine, has more weights than the one I showed you. (I KNOW the engine was gone through before I got it, go ahead and ask how I figure)

Re: Starting to get into all the small details

Made the trip with crank.

The crank signal notches are the same. The crank will need to be cut (200). Machinist doesn't feel comfortable with it bc of balancing reasons (for starters)

Ended...
