Re: 5 spd troubles?

What year is your Saturn? Original clutch hydraulics? That went on my '95 last summer/fall. Symptoms were: notchy/crunchy shifting, with 1st being particularly hard to get into, and a squeaky clutch...

Re: Temp gauge reading about 1/3 - is it the CTS?

Thanks, kanling, for your input. Nice to hear from someone in the exact situation.:) I need to check the age of my coolant before deciding to make a move on the thermostat. I know my husband put in a...

Re: Temp gauge reading about 1/3 - is it the CTS?

Yes, that would settle the matter, wouldn't it? From my research here, I think the other sensor must be resin b/c it's original. I am also guessing that these plastic sensors may fail on a gradient...

Re: Losing Power when AC is on??

My SW2 requires a Torx driver to pull the lights out for replacement. Can't vouch for a SL, as my '93 went 112K without ever burning out a bulb.:D

And yes, Saturns do dog it with the AC on. Try...

Re: Temp gauge reading about 1/3 - is it the CTS?

Yes, mileage and performance have improved immediately after changing the ECTS. It had a hairline crack in the tip as expected.

Yes, I replaced the 2-wire, harder-to-get-at sensor with the...

Cool Temp gauge reading about 1/3 - is it the CTS?

Just did the ECTS b/c of poor mileage woes, and that's noticeably better even though I only filled up today, so don't know the full tank mpg yet.

But...the temp gauge is still reading about 1/3...

Re: How many things are broken in your S and you have no desire to fix them?

Yes, that's the thing. What is it for, other than getting hung up on things when parked improperly by significant others?;) If it'll increase my MPG's I might consider replacing it; otherwise, I...

Re: How many things are broken in your S and you have no desire to fix them?

1995 SW2, owned since May '95:

driver's seatbelt retaining clip cracked
headliner starting to look puffy
scratched up rear bumper when I got tagged 5 years ago
dashboard rattle 'fixed' with a...

Re: Alternator replacement time?

My 2 cents: if you've considered doing the serpentine belt, do it while you are doing the alternator. Otherwise, you're going to get a real feeling of deja vu when you go to do the serpentine!

Re: EGR - cheap fix

I don't know about "all the time". This was the first step I'd taken towards fixing it. I'd been toying with the idea of pulling it out to clean it, but it's winter. It's cold outside, and I figured...

EGR - cheap fix

I have been having the infamous Code 32/EGR stall. I dumped a bottle of STP Carb Cleaner Fuel Treatment in the gas tank at fill-up about a month ago and have not set a code since. (whoohoo!) A couple...

Re: stalls at highway speeds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never been in my mom's car when it does this. She's afraid to drive it now b/c she almost got creamed on the highway when it died, so she had it towed to the dealer. Good tip, though!

Right...

Re: stalls at highway speeds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum rocks! My mom's '98 SL2 has been acting up. Local dealer tightened battery connections and gave it back, reporting no failure found. No codes were set. I came here to search for "stall"...

Re: CRiCKeT Sound in the rear of '97 SL.

Maybe folding the seat down let the cricket out?:p

Squeaking/chirping usually means plastic rubbing. Check for loose moldings, misaligned body parts (the car's, not yours) or something you might...

Re: Help-where do I lube the transaxle shift linkage?

Greasing the linkage: yes, I dabbed some red wheel bearing grease on it, then worked through the gears with the engine off. I'd recommend having it in 1st, applying grease, then putting it in reverse...

Re: Help-where do I lube the transaxle shift linkage?

Did you grease the linkage at all? I found the shift-feel like normal with the engine off/no clutch after greasing the linkages. Of course, I still had the pedal squeak and crunchy shifting until I...

Re: Sl2 Cluth advise needed

Welcome to my world: http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62332

Your clutch hydraulics are either leaking/letting in air or the DOT3 fluid is breaking down. Either way, you'd probably...

Re: Help-where do I lube the transaxle shift linkage?

Well, aren't you a ray of sunshine? ;)

If it doesn't last, I'll be getting genuine Saturn parts next time.

Re: Help-where do I lube the transaxle shift linkage?

I DID IT! I have clutch action and gears again. I opened it (the aftermarket system) up one more time, and bled the hydraulic lines from the master, first by pushing the clutch pedal in a bit slowly...

Re: Help-where do I lube the transaxle shift linkage?

Well, yeah, I remember. And NOW I understand that when I asked for the complete unit from my parts guy and I was handed 2 pieces that it was not "equivalent".

We've bled the slave, bled the lines...

Re: Help-where do I lube the transaxle shift linkage?

These are after market. We've filled the slave with DOT3, bled it, and installed. Then filled the master reservoir. There seems to be air in the lines, but the slave has no bleed screw. The clutch...

Re: Help-where do I lube the transaxle shift linkage?

Repair Update: DH and I just replaced the slave and master clutch cylinders. Unfortunately, it's not working at all now. The pedal feels quite loose, as if it can't build hydraulic pressure. Now...

Awesome! Thank you. :)

Oh, and I did get to lubing the transaxle shift linkage after you guys described where to look. That made all the difference with the engine-off shifting, nice and slick...

Re: Help-where do I lube the transaxle shift linkage?

Figured I'd update you guys - I just got my clutch cylinders in hand today and will be attempting the repair at the next opportunity. It seems to be in the nick of time - now it shifts much easier...
