i did try searching youtube but nothing on this body style for trailing arm bushing. even tried Cobalt, and G5 . nothing. i can find videos for the S series all day long but nothing for the Ion....

so i did some investigating and the the hole in the passenger side strut tower that the "top hat" mounts to was larger diameter then the driver side. not only that but the hole has worn into an oval...

OK now to further update everyone I ordered one OEM used strut off eBay taken from a salvage Ion, pretty sure it's an original one as it has the reverse torx bolts on the mount.
I installed it...

well none of that stuff worked either the sound was still there. i dont really understand what is causing the noise seeing as how everything was replaced.

yes the strut was pre-assembled, however the strut cap was not installed. i had to install the cap myself. maybe i did something wrong?

ok to update everyone: i drained the old fluid (was kinda brown) and replaced with 1.5 qts of Castrol Transmax Dex/Merc and half qt of Lucus transmission additive to thicken it up
