Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Looked out the window at it...

Not only are we under a stay at home order, but it's rainy and dreary outside.

Re: Diver's side leak.... looks like ATF

I was reading a bit on the forum, and it seems like there's a few people reporting no initial event.... it just started leaking.

I'll check the filter.... I already have the plastic removed from...

Re: Diver's side leak.... looks like ATF

Diver's side leak.... looks like ATF

Today I noticed the dark spot on my driveway looks like its had fresh contributions. I hadn't really thought too much of the oily spot before, as I've had it before the Saturn.... many past leaks...

Re: What is under the door skin to seal the interior?

Thank you! That's what I have that's disintegrated in my rear door, that everyone seemed to be confused about what I was talking about. I didn't know it covered the whole outside. I thought it was...

PCV valve vibration?

Today while working on the EGR, I discovered my PCV valve will vibrate. It'll settle down and if I hit it, it will start vibrating again. It's the valve with the angled plastic connection, so it's...

Re: EGR replacement.... becasue I need to, and I need to entertain myself.

I finally got it done today. I meant to take pictures, but I got in a hurry since it started raining.

I pulled the original EGR valve, and gasket. I already had a new BWD gasket from Orielly. ...

Re: Please help - need idle pully stuff

I guess I'm not understanding how we know the boss is worn down without looking at the cover itself. Unless this is just a known thing with these engines?

Re: Please help - need idle pully stuff

I'm not familiar with the timing cover area, but I have these parts to do too. How did you go from spacer to idler-pulley-mount/timing-cover? It looks like some sort of eccentric washer...which I...

Re: Quick update on the car & wondering how everyone's doing?

The cheapest I got gas was $1.83 before I stopped working. That was nice since my mileage is down... I'm hoping it's the EGR problem I have although I was getting the code well before I noticed the...

Re: EGR replacement.... becasue I need to, and I need to entertain myself.

Oh, I actually have some of that. It's probably 10 years old. I don't think I've opened it up for several years. I'll go ahead and use that then.

Re: EGR replacement.... becasue I need to, and I need to entertain myself.

I guess I forgot Paul has a brother with a Youtube channel. While watching the Scannerdanner video when he fixes his own brakes on his truck, he went to his brother's shop to turn the rotors, and...

Re: EGR replacement.... becasue I need to, and I need to entertain myself.

I wondered about that but figured it must be pretty impervious if it's got to withstand hot exhaust gases. Do you know details of how the pintle is sealed?

Re: EGR replacement.... becasue I need to, and I need to entertain myself.

A couple of reasons. I'm not sure what you're calling Chem-dip, and I'm trying to use things I already have.

Re: EGR replacement.... becasue I need to, and I need to entertain myself.

Thinking further, I thought maybe I'd flip it upside down and put lye in with a syringe. I've got the perfect syringes from the vet. I suppose I could try something like Seafoam, too.

Re: Rear suspension bolts

I suggested a wire wheel to clean the hardware up, the OP said he was thinking electrolysis.

Edit: Upon re-examination of his picture, I think the nut is a little rough, but I think the bolt...

Re: EGR replacement.... becasue I need to, and I need to entertain myself.

I started watching a Scanner Danner video after that one, but haven't finished it yet.... it's a much longer video. I don't think the two Danners are related in any way.

Re: Rear suspension bolts

I'm talking about electrolysis used to remove rust, not from being exposed to the elements during use in the suspension.

Re: Rear suspension bolts

I'm not sure if it's internet lore, or real, but I'd research hydrogen embrittlement due to electrolysis before using it on hardened bolts.

Re: EGR replacement.... becasue I need to, and I need to entertain myself.

How deep do you make the solution?

I was watching a guy use oven cleaner on Youtube the other day, so thought I might try lye, which I already have.

I also watched a guy spray it directly into...

Re: Rear suspension bolts

Those don't look that bad to me. Do you have a bench grinder that you can mount a wire wheel? I think those may clean up pretty well.

Warning: if you're not used to using a wire wheel,...

Re: Rear suspension bolts

I'm usually disappointed with Fastenal's selection. When I needed to purchase bolts I ended up ordering from McMaster-Carr.

All the fasteners on these Saturns rust much more than bolts on my...

Re: Attention northerners....Winter wiper blade reccomendation?

Yes, I noticed that the passenger side doesn't contact fully at the end, too. I'll have to look to see if my non-winter blades do that.
