Re: Stall & no re-start when hot

OK, I've now had a couple of stalls, but these are right after start.

Yesterday, I started the car up, put it in reverse, it struggled to back up, and then stalled. I should note this was at noon,...

Re: Stall & no re-start when hot

I took it for a good long drive today and it never stalled. I even shut it off in a church parking lot and it immediately restarted.

So for now, I think this issue is SOLVED. It was the fuel...

Re: Stall & no re-start when hot

It happens when the car is fully warmed (so, driving for 20 minutes or so) and I try to re-start immediately after it stalls.

Re: Stall & no re-start when hot

Guys! Thank you so much for your help. There is improvement, but it's not all fixed yet.

I just replaced the fuel regulator. It now starts quicker when cold, and if I hold the accelerator pedal to...

Re: Stall & no re-start when hot

OK, so here's what I've found out.

1. The vacuum line going into the fuel regulator does have slight gasoline smell. I ran the car with the vacuum line off and didn't get any gas coming out of the...

Re: Stall & no re-start when hot

Thanks guys! I just checked the fuel pressure. It initially kicks up to 42 PSI, drops down to 36 PSI within a second or two, then in about 15 seconds it bleeds down to under 30 PSI. When it's...

Re: Stall & no re-start when hot

I just thought of some more pertinent information. It never fires right up. It always takes about 10 seconds of cranking when cold, and more like 30 seconds when hot. And when it's hot, it catches...

Stall & no re-start when hot

My 1996 SW2, automatic, stalls if I leave it in D once it gets hot. I can get around the issue by shifting into N as I come to a stop and giving it a little gas (up to about 2k RPM) before I drop it...

How to check if engine turns over

I'm going to go look at a Saturn tonight or tomorrow night. The seller says it's a no crank, no start. I want to make sure the engine turns over.

1. Do I need to remove the accessory belt?
2. I...

Re: Trunk release not working

I don't recall. It would have been at least 3 years ago.

Re: Trunk release not working

Man, I have no idea if I ever got this working. I sold this car 3 years ago. I still see it around, so I could stop the current owner and see.

Re: How to tell if wheel bearing is bad?

Could be a bad tire, could be a bad wheel bearing. Rotate your tires and see if the sound moves up front. If it doesn't, replace the wheel bearings.

Re: How to tell if wheel bearing is bad?

Usually, a wheel bearing is a growling sound, and will increase with speed.

My mentality about wheel bearings is that if you're replacing one, you might as well replace the other side too.

Re: I'm back in a Saturn again/out where a friend is a friend...

I would need to double check, but I believe it's a mechanical odometer, so it would make sense to me that it would turn with the wheels.

The engine felt peppy, and not like it has 285k on it.

Re: I'm back in a Saturn again/out where a friend is a friend...

I have to get one from a manual Sx2, right? There's an automatic 99 SC1 in a junkyard near me, but given I have a manual SW2, I thought there was something about gear ratios which would make it not...

I'm back in a Saturn again/out where a friend is a friend...

:D:D:D

Well, I've enjoyed my Focus wagon, but it needs $600 worth of work, and I just got a 1996 SW2 for less than that!

Here's the info I have on it:

-285k miles on the odometer, but I'm...

Re: Brake bleeders snapped off

We've already got the pads and rotors, so I wouldn't go with loaded, just semi-loaded.

Thanks for the recommendation of Napa calipers. Those look good and price-wise are competitive with RockAuto.

Brake bleeders snapped off

Yesterday, I was helping the current owner of my old 2002 SL change brake pads and rotors. First thing, I took a 10 mm wrench to the brake bleeders, to make sure they would open up. Both just snapped...

Re: It's the end of an era

They do grow on you. If somebody offered to trade my manual 2007 Focus wagon for a manual SW2, I'd have to think long and hard about it. I love and respect the S series and would not hesitate to...

It's the end of an era

Last year, about this time, I sold my 2002 SL. Now, I will be putting the 1998 SW2 up for sale. In many respects, my SL was the best car I've ever had.

However, our family is growing, and so we...

Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!

http://bn.craigslist.org/cto/5372094695.html

2nd gen green manual SW2, 108k miles. I'm going to be in the area next week, but I can't purchase another wagon or my wife will kill me.

Re: Dying starter or battery/circuit issue?

Batteries absolutely can fail internally. I've seen it happen both in my own car and at work. Clean your connections by all means, but also get your battery load tested. I think most parts stores...
