As to the damaged lock cylinder, if it turns the Passlock sensor should pick up lock cylinder rotation. If its damaged and jammed and can't rotate, the Passlock sensor can't detect cylinder rotation...

1-S-series from 2000+ use Passlock theft deterrent. Its not in the ignition key. Your ignition key is as plain as your house door key. No chip in it. The Passlock sensor surrounding the ignition lock...

Search for numerous threads about the infamous engine coolant temperature sensor. Originals are round nosed plastic, cracking and sending incorrect signals informing the pcm the engine is freezing....
