What would you charge?

Opinions wanted.

2001 Saturn S (SOHC) needs the intake manifold gasket replaced.
I've done the same repair on my own vehicle, 2002 SC1, and I remember it being a PITA. Tight spaces.

Not a...

No exhaust leaks.

I will check grounds and can certainly check voltages BUT

Bank1Sensor2

SOHC 114k. Not an oil burner.

Downstream O2 sensor voltage is reported as low.

Scanner shows 000 volts while at idle and not much higher at speed.

Occasionally it will jump to .4ish or...

Re: SOHC Head Gasket R&R

Long time coming but I finally posted a pic of the SOHC head gasket I replaced 6 months ago.

The oil feed hole that was leaking out the backside is located behind #1 cylinder. The greyish bead...

Re: SOHC Head Gasket R&R

I just hit the 1500 mile mark since fixing the head-gasket oil leak.

The level has gone down 2 diamonds in 1500 miles.
So it does use oil but very little.

BTY I have been using the...

Re: PCV valve test

About 150 most recent miles were all highway traveling at 65ish up and down hills. It's an automatic and I don't baby it but I don't go crazy with it either.
The rest has been traveling on...

Re: PCV valve test

I started this thread and have used the fixed orifice for quite some time.
I always ran heavier oil but am now running 5W/30 and seeing no oil use at all.
It's only been about 400 miles since...

Re: SOHC Head Gasket R&R

So nice to have a leak free engine again. No stains under the car and after around 500 miles, oil level has not dropped at all.

With the leak I was getting about 700 miles/qt.
After...

Re: A/C compressor comes on with blower motor... even turned to heat!

On my '02 the A/C will turn on when the vent location knob is rotated full right and set for defrost.

Possibly that switch is stuck on. Then no matter what temp or vent location is selected,...

Re: Help! No heat!

Getting ready for Winter so I decided to improve the lack luster heat output.

The engine is back together (head gasket and timing set) so I've moved on to solving the poor heat problem.

Quick...

Re: Help! No heat!

Well it wasn't the gasket blocking flow. It flows clear through the heater core and Intake manifold. And the outlet line is unrestricted all the way back to and through the thermostat housing.

Re: Help! No heat!

Pretty sure I have the same problem.
I replaced the intake manifold gasket with a Felpro in May 2012 and the following winter my son complained of no heat. Hoses in and out of the core weren't...

Re: SOHC Head Gasket R&R

The extra bolts were for the PS pump.

Observation.

While the head was off I noticed each pistons had 2 very small valve pockets on the intake side. I take it the same pistons were used in the...

Re: SOHC Head Gasket R&R

Thanks
Good to know they're all the same length.

The center bolt has the 8mm head and the rest are 10mm.
I have more than 14 bolts so I must have thrown the PWR steering pump mounting bolts in...

SOHC Head Gasket R&R

Finally made time to replace the head gasket and stop the irritating oil leak from behind #1 cylinder.

Disclaimer. This is not technically a question concerning an S vehicle however it is related to the engine.

I'm wondering if the Saturn I4 1.9 could be used in a RWD application?

Is there a...

Haven't pulled the head yet so I don't have pics of the factory installed gasket.

I worked on ...

Re: oil leak in head gasket

My worry is that the replacement gasket will fail just like the original.

I would like to know why the factory installed gasket failed.
Faulty procedure....faulty gaskets. Any guesses?

Re: Collapsed Anchor 2827 TAM

Literally takes less than 15 minutes to replace the mount and if you utilize the Anchor warranty you end up getting 2 for the price of 1. Roughly $20 each.

With a brand new frowny you can't even...
