Just did this procedure on a 1996 SL2 - had the 'dead car' (crank but no start everything checks OK) - CPS was indicated by process of exclusion and resistance test.

Tip - the plug in the front...

Got a solid mount from AutoZone - which was also the DEA brand.

Asking the clerk to check the design was not a big deal - they only had one in stock - and he showed me the inventory levels at all...

one more thing -

when the ground lead to the range switch is disconnected and the car is in Drive (ignition in the "On" position) for the test/switch adjustment - it will generate fault code 0709...

I had the same problem with my '96 SL2 (78K) - started to do the switch adjustment according to the procedure, then noticed my ohm meter showed continuity - I suspected corrosion on the ground lead...

double platinums for my SL2 (1.9L DOHC) seem to be made only by Autolite, Champion or Denso - at least that's all that Rock Auto lists....
