Re: Running hotter after tune up

Doubtful that the wires and such caused the temp increase, if there even is one.

It might just be pure coincidence and could be a failed ECTS or connector, thermostat, coolant tank leak, etc.

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

I'll always have love for the Saturn, but just have better things to do than work on a basic commuter. If it was a cherry car, I'd probably put a clutch in it, but it's been a beater for years. And...

Re: Get Together

That is a group of well cared for and good looking cars.

I have to admit, the off road look doesn't look at all bad. I remember seeing some of the play in the mud videos.

And the early SC.......

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Well not today, but in the last week I've replaced it.

The '95 was driven away from the dealers new. We used it for various tasks over the years, even when we had other cars and/or company cars....

Re: 5 speed transmission questions

I think this might have been an emissions thing, either specific to year and/or specific emissions calibration.

My '95 SL1 drops revs just as soon as you get off the gas, regardless of overall...

Re: Quick update on the car & wondering how everyone's doing?

My '95 was accident free until last year. But then in a matter of 6 months time, within 1/4 mile of work, I got hit twice. Once on the passenger door, bad enough to have the entire door replaced,...

It might be worth noting the type it is to avoid it in the future. :D

Re: 1996SL11.9L's 2002 SL1

It's amazing how much these little S Series cars can spoil a person with regards to MPG. I actually drive a short enough commute that using the SUV vs the Saturn would only really cost me $350-400...

Re: 02 sl1 sohc overheating

Make sure the small line from the head to the coolant reservoir is clear and flowing. You can do it with the cap off, but it's almost as quick to just remove it (with the car cool) then put it in...

Re: Control Arms Replacement - Tips & Tricks wanted

I was lucky on the bolts and they came out without issue.

As for the actual method used to move the sway bar ends, I ended up using a big pipe myself. The strap method was a PITA to get the...

Re: Here's a mysterious trouble...

Though I agree that your gauge reading seems low for a '95, I doubt it is anything to do with your starting problem. It might be worth looking into the gauge reading vs actual temp, but maybe you...

Re: Back Up Light Switch - manual transmission

Well, that switch was short lived! Checked it out after noticing a strange flash from the back. The same symptom shows on a meter as well, temporary contact then resistance ramps up quickly.

Of...

Re: SPAM Contingency Plan Thread

Thanks for keeping the place going Charlie. I know that it must be a pain at times, especially with the ever increasing levels of spam attacks.

I'm not sure if you noticed it in other threads,...

Re: Saturn Homecomings and a possible article?

Jodie,

I'm going to cross post a link into the S Series forums. There are a lot of passionate owners there, since the S Series was the first and only "true" unique Saturn. I know over the years...

Re: Whats your MPG?

Well I finally caught up with the stack of receipts from 2018

Low tank of just above 30 MPG in early January. We had single digit temps, and a few days of snow, which around here means no...

Re: What should I ask?

Hard to say really, since prices in most areas are driven by the market and your patience factor. These days $1000 for a car that works is still low enough to be a "disposable" car, as in one that a...

The general discussion is now into the 90 pages of spam from that bot.

I hope Charlie is ok and just busy, he's done a lot of work over the years to keep this site going for us.

Re: Turn signal bulb not working.

I had a dead side marker and went through the same.

Check the ground that is on the front passenger side. On my SL1 it's clearly visible from above, but you might have to look a bit harder with...

Re: Fail safe thermostat?

That is some serious price gouging! I don't know if it would fit anything other than the S Series car, but maybe GM used them in something else as well.

And cold is not good with a bad...

I could give you a list of subjects on the forum that will be the same. Most often due to repeated misinformation.

We had a forum member from NGK that explained the various plug brands...

Re: STANT 14279 theromostat problem

The push type pins have usually come out for me. Just pry the center stub out with either a small screwdriver or wire cutter pliers, then the outer section comes right out. IIRC the splash shield...

Re: Well darn, my '99 SL2 laps oil like a BMW

The Chemtool really does clean well. It got a lot more crap off my pistons on the top end soak than I thought even existed. It could have been also getting some carbon off the tops of the ring set,...

Re: Whats your MPG?

Last tank was just shy of 33 MPG. KInda dismal for the SL1, but hit quite a bit of traffic snarl on my short commute a couple of those days.

I've got a stack of fuel receipts in the car that I...

Re: Straight Up Bragging Rights

Just one.

But we've owned it since it was new, and we were "Saturn Launched" from the dealers showroom.

Re: Engine air filter proper orientation on housing/box

First photo is correct.

Would the top piece even go on the other direction?
