Re: Manual Radiator fan switch advice.

There's no good reason to install the manual radiator fan switch, ever. Pretty much the only way it should be installed (I'd use tape instead if you can't stand a gauge that acts like a gauge) is so...

Re: Brake issues..

If they had to work on the front driver side line and they didn't replace the whole thing I'd lose my lid on them. The bends are so easy and the total distance is so short there's no good reason not...

Re: Spark Plug Wires Firing Order

All 3 are identical other than having cylinders 5 & 6 added to the labeling mix. I'd suggest whichever 2 call out 5 & 6 just to give the next person to work on it something to think about :D

I'm...

Re: 99 ECM into a 98 SL with a 95 DOHC 5 spd

You get the CC to work again by either turning it on with a Tech II or swapping in a '98-'99 ECM with it already enabled. I believe OldNuc and DIYGuy have posted workarounds to make it work; possibly...

Re: Spark Plug Wires Firing Order

When I put 3.1 V6 coils on one of my DOHC's (uncommon "mod", slightly stronger spark than stock) it ran better with the plug order on the coils flipped around. 4123 is what it should have been but it...

Re: HELP Accidentally Cracked Fender

If you're removing the fender to replace the side markers, you don't have a clue what you're doing. Peel the fender liner back to get to the bolts like a sane person :tounge:

Re: Your opinions on the performance switch on equipped auto S-series?

It doesn't do much. In 'normal' mode it shifts mostly normally even at WOT (may hold a shift a few hundred RPM, but not much) while in performance mode shifts are a bit firmer and at WOT it'll hold...

Re: Rear drum backing plate swap (what years fit)

IIRC the backing plates are sandwiched between the bolt-on rear wheel bearing and the knuckle...as long as the undersized 10mm hex-head bolts (heads should be at least 12mm for the torque required)...

Re: Any way to make tail lights and brake lights brighter?

$20!? They're $8 for 2 at the 50-100% overpriced FLAPS! lmao (they're under $4 on Amazon...)

Re: Starter & EGR brackets

Both brackets are not required. The one on the starter was removed from the factory starting in either late '93 or '94.

Later years the DOHC came with more brackets than the SOHC did for the power...

Re: Any way to make tail lights and brake lights brighter?

LED's may help but you'd have to get the correct color for each position, otherwise I believe 30 series bulbs are upgrades on 10, 11 and 20 series. I believe stock bulbs are 1157, so you'd look for...

Re: Can I swap sl rear seats into my sl2

Why? Even if you don't swap the under support the bottoms swap with no issue. Can't fit 3 people in the back of a 4dr anyway, might as well put a SC bottom in and give the 2 people a couple cup...

Re: Dead starter, but is it really the starter?

I've done that a few times with auto's. Manual transmission's don't care what gear you're in and I'm far more used to starting them lol

Re: Clutch slipping - how long do I have?

At a minimum you should have it resurfaced ($30 at my local machine shop, I assume similar rates for all) and maybe 2-days turnaround.

Last I knew S-Series flywheels were priced like gold in "new"...

Re: Need screw in fitting for water heater hose, dr. side

That's for the craptastic 3rd gen plastic intake manifold. The aluminum intake manifolds have a screw in fitting "hose barb" that threads into the IM while providing a nipple for the coolant hose to...

Re: Attention northerners....Winter wiper blade reccomendation?

I just put "Trico 35-##0 Ice Extreme" all around on my current car. Replace the ## with the length of wiper you need (21 and 20 I believe with the S-Series) to get your part number. I haven't had...

Re: Intake swap question

Its easier to just swap the sensors from the '00 block to the '96 and keep the '00 harness in the car.

Have fun converting the good fuel rail on the '96 to the crap fuel rail '98-'02's got, that's...

Re: Intake swap question

I don't believe the '99-'00 IM will bolt to the '91-'98 heads. If you put the '96 head in the '00 then the exhaust manifold and downpipe will also have to be swapped.

Also the alternator changed...

Re: battery vs. alternator

Side posts are famous for looking perfectly fine on the outside while being crap on the inside, as pictured. The corrosion doesn't look that bad but it can impede the electrical connection a lot.

Re: 1998 Saturn SL2 won't start when parked on driveway incline

But...there's only 1 inaccessible fastener and even that one is easy to ignore.
13mm + 12in extension takes care of the bolt on the side, any 10mm takes care of the nut on top and I wouldn't bother...

Re: battery vs. alternator

Side post batteries are horrible. Slightly loose and they look fine but the battery tests dead (and eventually the terminal backs out of the battery entirely). Slightly tight and the soft lead...

Re: Did you put the hammer down today?

I hate when people do that. All in a rush to get on the road with no gumption to get to their destination. Especially when they skip the stop sign at this one popular intersection. I tend to ride...

Re: battery vs. alternator

ABS Code 36 = ABS Voltage under 11.6v and ABS is disabled.

12.9v while running indicates an alternator issue, weather it's actually a bad alternator or just poor connections. Generally, under...

Re: Minimum valve to piston clearance

Pretty sure you end up with fubar timing long before the valves contact the pistons if the head is shaved too much. Even the 'standard' 0.030" off is enough to throw off the timing while still...

Re: Is my starter blowing my IGN 3 fuse?

If the alternator/battery post and starter motor post were connected all the time the starter would be running all the time. The only time the 2 are connected is when the post the purple wire is on...
