Re: A goodbye too soon?(Switching to Porsche)

Yeah, it better be well maintained if you plan to keep using it. They can be reliable cars, but everything is ridiculously overpriced for them. If they werent kept well everything will need to be...

Re: I couldn't change the pads

Well thats too bad. I used what I think was the "F" plate from the kit and the right hand threaded tool and it worked ok. It wasn't the smoothest moving caliper either. I had to wiggle it back and...

Re: Selling the Astra

Seems pretty low, but the used car market had been over inflated by the lack of cars purchased when ours was. 2010 was when things picked back up and with all those coming off lease it seems the...

Re: Anyone replace brake pads - abnormal wear

Looking at it, I would have to say its just a straight bad design. I haven't seen anything like it before (although I usually stick to cars from Japan). The pads dont seem free to move enough like...

Re: Anyone replace brake pads - abnormal wear

Good call on the Amazon price. I was seeing 50% wear on the fronts, but the rotors were looking terrible and it was starting to feel bad. Once apart, the insides have worn significantly more than...

Re: The Astra vs Other Cars

engine power? For real, anything compares in engine power. Handling feel, yes its pretty top notch there. Talking FWD, the MINI easily unseats in there, but that is a little unfair. New Focus is...

Re: Are TPMS valves required.

I had no idea they came back. I wonder if something changed in the regulations or the automakers were able to come up with an indirect system to satisfy the regulations. Obviously there is a pretty...

Re: Are TPMS valves required.

Pretty sure the direct sensors are mandatory now. The passive systems that ran off the ABS sensors were getting very common until the regulators got involved.

The light is somewhat annoying, but...

Re: Astra buying advice wanted

What do you mean by done? 300 seems pretty steep for doing brakes. Brakes are from the standard GM parts bin.

If you are used to owning Japanese cars and doing everything yourself, this car can...

Re: Anyone replace brake pads - abnormal wear

Wow good find. I had no idea amazon was starting to become competitive on something like brake rotors. I make snag everything for my car and redo all the brakes. I am getting sick of the sticking...

Re: Suggestions on shocks?

Im sure they handle nice, but is the ride quality as compliant as OEM. Thats usually the advantage of a well valved monotube.

The Konis are perhaps the in between, but I doubt they are close to...

Re: Suggestions on shocks?

After some digging I did find something promising.

https://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/Shock-Absorbers-c-2238/

Pretty sure those should work.

Re: Suggestions on shocks?

I've been looking at shock too and we don't have the best options to me. The Konis are twin tube, and I wouldn't want to spend that much for a older twin tube design. Might be worth the extra money...

Re: Autocross Astra?

I have twice while my main autox car was under repairs. It does pretty respectable for HS, but it is definitely not a competitive car on a national scale. Its a great first car for autox. Slower...

Re: 2013 Vauxhall Astra VXR Review

Buick needs to start offering manual transmissions before I would think of stepping foot on a dealer lot. Offer a manual and a hatchback and I might be curious at least. Buick is trying to change...

Re: Astra Rear Sway Bar Installation

Sway bar on the torsion beam?

Hows this really affect the balance of the car? The torsion beam should be accomplishing the same task pretty well, but ours is a really strange setup. Would be...

Re: Rear brake service

Mine have done this since the car was new and I tore all the calipers down and greased them and sanded the rotors (since the shops to resurface it all wanted 3 days to do the job and I couldn't wait...

Re: Auto to Manual Transmission Swap

Sounds like a good list, but hard to say with modern cars. Might need a whole brake master cylinder and clutch master, since the reservoirs are shared.

I don't think I would want to undertake...

Re: Check Coolant Level warning?

Anyone try something as simple as this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5814yr2p_Y

curious to try, but I am thinking that might not be the problem with the Astra since the issue started so early.

Re: Bittersweet, selling my Astra

Astra to Camaro is an interesting switch. Opposite ends of the spectrum there.

The hardest part of selling one has to be name recognition. Nobody really knows about the car and if they did it...

Re: Help! Clutch Issue

Well you can watch the whole pedal to slave system work without anything special. I would just starting by getting another person to operate the pedal and make sure that it moves properly and stays...

Re: Steering and suspension question

Well to a point all FWD is going to do that. Your complaint is likely more attributed to the tire selection. The Continental DWs I have are much more drivable in the rain, the OEM Hankooks were...

Re: Anyone replace brake pads - abnormal wear

Well I have 60k miles and all the pads still have more than 50% left, but the rears do seem further along than the fronts. I think that rears just drag more, something had always been wrong with my...

Re: Cruze 6 speed swap

How much would you think that would improve mpg?

And for anyone that's driven a cruze is it a better box than our cars. The 5 spd isn't the worst thing in the world, but the feel is well below...
