Re: 1998 SL1 rear bumper skin compatibility with other models?

Ok so an SL2, '96-'99, if it's got a body-color rear bumper cover it'll fit? Sounds like the simplest thing for me will be to make do with another grey plastic one :(

Yup, I had a '91 manual SC2...

Re: 1998 SL1 rear bumper skin compatibility with other models?

Awesome Trottida, thanks your input. I'd guess that the '99 bumper skin was the one that they colored body color not bare grey plastic, right?

1998 SL1 rear bumper skin compatibility with other models?

Hey guys,

Yesterday I was rear-ended. Not a big deal, their fault, and I may take a payout.

But was thinkin' of replacing the stock ugly grey unpainted rear bumper skin of my '98 SL1 with the...

Re: Starter rebuild for early S-series Saturns

Hey Lord (I wanted to say Good Lord!), resurrecting an old thread because I'd love to see how that dbelectrical starter worked out for you?

Anyone else have a good/bad result with DB? After...

See what I mean? Great answers to any saturn questions, you're very appreciated Toggenburg! Mine's a 1998 1.9 SL1 manual. Fun little economy car. When a starter gear stays engaged to the flywheel for...

Re: random high idle that is 'fixed' by turning off key, restarting...

Mine's a manual, but I can only guess how it'd affect an auto! Mine didn't idle too much higher at first, put up with it for a couple months. Then it went up to 1,500 rpm, then 1,800. That was my...

random high idle that is 'fixed' by turning off key, restarting...

Hey guys, just a shoutout, thanks, to all of you through the years that posted about the bad Throttle Position Sensor symptoms; I had random high idle, 1,200 to 1,700 rpms, no readily located leaks...

Re: Does TranSynd improve M/T shift smoothness?

That's interesting. Heard that guy was around here. I recently bought some Sun (?) Transynd for my truck with an Allison trans. I've got over 170k on that thing and I think the Amsoil TS may be to...

Re: Shaking while braking!

Just replied to the other thread about this same problem.

Had this EXACT same problem with another brand car, replaced front, rear brakes, all control arm bushings, or so I thought, hard...

Re: 98 Saturn sl Brake issue? You tell me..

Let us know if your brake job fixes the problem @S-forever, k? Wonder if the OP succeeded in fixing his shake? I'm sure he's long gone...

I'm in a similar boat, but I'm doubtful that it's the...

Re: Does TranSynd improve M/T shift smoothness?

Thanks OldNuc. Once upon a time I switched from stock gear oil to the specified Redline synthetic in another brand vehicle and it shifted amazing, well, noticeably smoother into every gear while...

Does TranSynd improve M/T shift smoothness?

For those of you that changed your 5 speed M/T transmission fluid to that Transynd TES 295 synthetic oil; did it improve the smoothness of your tranny shifts? If so, how much diff did it make?

Re: Best Manual Trans Fluid?

That's the trans-syn Allison auto fluid, good stuff in my truck. Did any of you get a noticeable improvement in shifting with this expensive fluid? Going from neutral to first gear when warm, fully...

Re: Who's running 205/50R15's with manual steering? How about vs 195/55?

You bring up some interesting points Dssl, I don't know the back end story behind Road Force balancing, but I do know that I am sick and tired (no pun intended) of getting my tires 'balanced' and...

Re: Which struts are better for my 2001 SL1?

Pisano, is it the (higher) spring rate that makes your setup so fun or is it the lowered ride height? Or is it both?

Did you upgrade to SC2, or heavier sway bars too?

I love to turn my saturn...

Re: Who's running 205/50R15's with manual steering? How about vs 195/55?

You're welcome. Tire reviews are tough reads because it's hard to tell what KIND of a driver you're listening to. Is it a slow old grandpa or an ex race car driver?

When someone says, 'rides...

Re: Who's running 205/50R15's with manual steering? How about vs 195/55?

Just to let y'all know what path I took and the outcome; I did not go 205/50R15, I went 195/55R15. Part of the reason I didn't go max width possible was my daughter will be 15 soon, and I want her to...

Re: Who has lightened their flywheel, SOHC?

Lol, sometimes these discussions bring out strong opinions, and that's cool as long as they can be shared as such, keeping it friendly.

Re: Who has lightened their flywheel, SOHC?

Yes it's pretty obvious that high idle is some connection, but it happens so infrequently I haven't taken the minute to spray the contact with CRC. Could this have a connection to the ALWAYS slow rpm...

Re: Who has lightened their flywheel, SOHC?

Great idea OldNuc, thanks. Kinda like making your own smoke machine for leak detection?

It does feel like some sorta floating idle drop on shifts at speed, because just sitting still in neutral,...

Re: Who has lightened their flywheel, SOHC?

I've wondered the same thing fdryer; is the slow rpm drop throttle control related? But I do believe it is not. It comes down soon enough between shifts, just not as fast as I've been used to in...

Re: Who has lightened their flywheel, SOHC?

Very interesting Fetchitfido. How many lbs lighter is 7 lbs compared to the stock flywheel? Would a smaller fw weight reduction be a worthwhile alternative?

Your SL2 is the higher hp twin cam...

Re: Odometer backlight bulb replacement

I was thinking something similar, because clearly the LED beam is focused in a single direction vs the incandescent bulb's nearly spherical light distribution. Sounds like I should just replace the...
