Re: 05 L300 v6 timing belt suggested parts.

+1 on the fuel pump. The 2000 pumps are one year only specials with a metal top plate for the tank port and metal delivery/return tubes. Also shocks and springs are original at 385,000 km.

Re: L100 manual trans oil plug removal

I checked my Allen keys and see that it is the 6mm key that has been cut down. There is no 7mm key in my set. Note that I was doubtful that the plug would come free when I did it. It felt like the...

Re: L100 manual trans oil plug removal

I used a standard long shank 7 mm Allen wrench with the short leg cut down a bit to fit between the body and the plug. It was necessary to put a 12" piece of 1/2" steel pipe over the Allen to get...

Re: 220.4 Too High?

Every cooling system has a maximum capacity. If it is exceeded, the temperature will climb. I once had an (unnamed) vehicle which began to overheat. I went through all the items on the FSM diagnostic...

Re: Stirring up the pot on when to check the oil level in an ECOTEC 2.2L engine

Two things. None of the 2.2 engines I have had used ANY oil between changes, so I don't do periodic checks anymore. I have found that fuel economy is related to the oil level. The closer to the...

Re: Steering wheel rejuvenation

http://www.leatherique.com/

My case is worse. The non-leather covered wheel has worn through the plastic skin. Fortunately the skin and the underlying foam are both black.

Re: Why is it so difficult to order parts from GM?

I ordered some parking brake cables for the rear drums from a website in Ireland. Only one engine size of the Vectra B came with drum brakes, but they had the parts.

Re: subframes,

I should have read your post better. AT to MT conversion on these cars would only be attempted by a masochist. As Pierrot stated, there are many things that would require changing. The MT has a...

Re: subframes,

I have BTDT (Been There Done That). MT subframes are only available from wreckers (car-part.com). I have done both MT and AT frames on different cars, and can tell you that the only difference is a...

Re: coilovers

The rear suspension of the L-Series is common with the 99-2009 Saab 9-5.

Re: Dim Headlights

For the record, the original Bosch headlight lenses on my '00 LS1 have never been polished and are still crystal clear. The car has spent most of its life outside in direct sun. I think this is...

Re: 2001 L300 rear driver strut

My experience is that these bottom strut bolts are difficult to engage in the threaded hole in the cast suspension arm. The threads are fine, which are easy to cross thread. The key is to have the...

Re: trying to find this part

The manual subframes are rarer and harder to find. There is only one difference between the manual and the automatic version. There is a horn or prong on the rear cross member for mounting the...

Re: replacing front sub frame ?

As the splash shield contributes to the corrosion that condemns the subframe I recommend that you discard it. So the difference between round and square holes isn't an issue. The important thing is...

Re: 2001 L300 power brake booster and locked brakes

I had a similar experience to the OP with my old Saab 9-5. The shop replaced the booster with a rebuilt unit, which tended to hang the brakes on. In my case, hooking my toe under the pedal and...

Re: 2001 Lw300 V6 L3.0 Air box cutout for new evaporator

@Igranda - Most mechanics identify fasteners by the tool required to turn them, for example, a 5mm bolt has an 8mm hex head, and would be called an 8mm bolt. People who make things tend to use the...

I am looking forward to seeing your pictures. I may be trying this repair if I get motivated.

Re: 2001 Lw300 V6 L3.0 Air box cutout for new evaporator

This is interesting that people think it is unlikely to be the evaporator. I was in the car when mine "let loose" some time ago. It sounded like sticking a knife into the sidewall of a tire and...

Re: No horn sound - suggestions of how to troubleshoot?

My first reaction was to see where you live. When the horn is located inside the fender it is very common to have it encased in ice in the winter in cold places. This silences it. But I don't think...

Re: 2003 Saturn L200 Fans not shutting off constantly running in cold temperatures

I have changed the thermostat on my 2.2. I didn't find the t'stat cover bolts hard to get to. I left the cap on the coolant overflow tank, and only a small amount of coolant came out with the stat...

Re: Jugging When Cold, Rough Start & Rich Idle ?

Also check the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve on the throttle body and look for vacuum leaks/cracked hoses. Clogged fuel injectors can do this too, ironically. The O2 sensor detects excess air, so...

Re: 05 L300 Interior Door Panel Broken/Loose

There are also some Torx head screws along the bottom edge, if I remember properly. One thing, the rigid strip at the top that fits over the metal edge tends to work loose over time. I have a 2-1/2"...

Re: 2003 L200 battery runs down

I have had this problem a couple of times with different cars. First, the alternator must put out more than 13.5 volts with the engine running to keep the battery up to full charge. If the battery...

Re: A/C Question

Between the dodgy switch and the skimpy wiring, this is why I installed a separate relay for my low beam headlights. I used #10 wire straight off the positive terminal on the fuse box with an in-line...

Re: Replacing alloy wheels leaking like a sieve. Alternate compatible size?

I have the 16" wheels off my '99 Saab 9-5 (departed) on my '00 LS1. These fit perfectly. The steering knuckles, wheel hubs, brake discs and calipers are identical between the two models. The rear...
