I just figured out where it said to back the 4 front lower motor mount bolts about 1/2" which allowed me to get oil pan out sans grinding or bending or replacing or otherwise loss of sanity

Somewhere, I don't remember where (probably on this forum)
someone advised that backing the 4 front lower motor mount bolts out a bit gives you enough clearance to get the oil pan out.

I also take the windshield wiper fluid bottle out of the way so I can get the breaker bar + cheater pipe through that opening...

That said, I think getting on the ground with breaker...

I've done it twice,

1st time I used a big plumber's wrench and put the bottom jaw under one of the 3 "spokes" of the crankshaft pulley, and the handle of the wrench was nestled against the sway...

Correction: There aren't any dashboard screws by the steering wheel side I think... and there are velcro-ish things (like 3M / EZ-Pass connectors) that also attach it; you just life up and it will...

There is a rubber strip on the forward edge of the dashboard in my 2001 SC1
so i guess Gen 3 S-series have it.
Dashboard comes out with 3 screws in front (1 by steering wheel, 2 by passenger side),...

I just fixed my 2001 SC1 with 117k miles,
I am 95% sure that there was an oil leak (no coolant leak, running great otherwise, a little oil burning) coming from the back passenger side of the head...

It quieted down after a few miles or so,

drove around today, and everything seems great....

just watching for leaks; so far all good.

Oh, and there is only about 4 qts of coolant in the engine right now, because I was going to add the rest as engine idled and warmed up... to get bubbles out...

is this possibly related?

I did indeed change the TPS since then, and it did fix the issue; no more revving...

right now putting head + timing cover + oil pan back on... it seems head gasket developed oil leak near...

although after restarting car, everything seems normal..

i've already replaced idle air control valve, and cleaned throttle body once,
and the high idle...
