Re: How to recharge drained battery (left manual radiator fan on)

+1 Purdue Guy

Case in point. When I was at Wal Mart recently getting a tire, I wandered around the car accessory area and found an interesting gadget that you plug into the cig lighter and it...

Re: Hard start, blue smoke.

First question is the standard ECTS one...have you ever replaced the ECTS on this? Bad ECTS causes engine to run rich which causes hard starting, bad mileage, idle issues, etc. It is a +-$10 part...

Re: 1997 SL1 trouble starting when warm

If you've not changed out the ECTS, do that first like harley 2003 says. You would be absolutely surprised by how many problems a bad ECTS will cause...hard starting, bad gas mileage, idling issues,...

Re: How to recharge drained battery (left manual radiator fan on)

Unfortunately, the way a dying battery works is that one day it is fine...maybe has been cranking a little slower lately but you don't really notice it. Then on that first cool morning, it doesn't...

Re: Front Rotor Questions

If you are replacing the rotors, I'd go ahead and do the pads as well since they are inexpensive and you'll be pulling the old pads out anyway to get to the rotors.

Re: Rubber Caliper Sleeve Question

To push the lubed sleeve through the hole, I wouldn't use anything that was remotely pointy or that would fall apart or leave residue. You really don't want to tear it, although it is pretty tough...

Re: a couple of how to questions on a 1994 saturn sl2

To get the rotors off you will also need to remove the caliper bracket on each wheel. Each bracket is held on by two bolts, but the bolts are different sizes with different torque settings for the...

Re: how do i jack up my 1994 saturn sl2?

Rhino Ramps are great, although that only works if you change the filter from underneath rather than through the wheelwell.

Re: Loud Buzzy Engine Noise

My first thought is upper engine mount. When you open the hood, you can see the mount on the left side (passenger side). Take a look at the rubber in the mount and if it is chewed up or otherwise not...

Re: complete interior cleansing

Now that I finished getting my '94 back on the road and it passed inspection today (yeah!), I'll be doing the same as you so I'm looking forward to any cleaning responses, particularly with regard to...

Re: Brake issue/help needed

Just a thought...when you cleaned and lubed the rubber caliper boot (the long one that goes with the thinner caliper pin), did you take it out of the caliper? And if so, did you put it in the wrong...

Re: Help with seized brake lock and guide pins

Just trying to confirm, given the old thread since there was an older post (2003) from Wolfman that used the circus analogy "Big Top" as a rule of thumb for determining which pin goes on top and on...

Re: Help with seized brake lock and guide pins

I know this is a really old thread, but I am doing some major brake work on my '94 SL2 that's been sitting for nearly a year and the Haynes book says fat pin on top and thinner one on bottom and...

Re: When a basic Oil Change goes south....

If your local Napa or Advance or whatever auto parts store doesn't have them, shouldn't the GM dealers be carrying them?

Re: ects leaking?

Oh yeah, it's great what a little knowhow can get you...bought an early German-made Capri for $130 over 25 years ago, swapped out a bag plug wire and then drove it across the country. Good times...

Re: Broke off Bleeder valve - What to do

Thanks, folks. I will give it a try. Hopefully I won't break the bleeders off the front 2...just trying to get this baby inspected again and prolong its life since it still passes emissions. I'm...

Broke off Bleeder valve - What to do

So now I feel like an idiot...bleeding the brakes and broke off the left rear bleeder valve. I'm not exactly sure where to go from here. I'm hoping some of the great folks out here have some...

Re: What is the dumbest thing you have forgot to do/not do on your Saturn?

OK...so I just busted off a rear brake bleeder valve. Am I screwed? How in the world do I fix this?

Not the dumbest thing...dumbest thing ever was back in high school with my brother's '73...

Re: SL2, 96, dies after start, only when warm

Sounds like ECTS problem, particularly if you are needing to floor it to get it started when it is warm. Reason? Bad ECTS causes motor to run rich...not such a big deal when cold and needs the extra...

Re: 99 SL1 starting problems

This really sounds like a battery cable issue in my opinion. Besides looking for corrosion on the terminals themselves, has corrosion by chance seeped up the postive cable (underneath the cable...

Re: SL2 Oil Filter Question

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer the Purolator oil filters I get at Advance Auto Parts over the Fram or the STP ones from Wal-Mart. Seem to be better made than Fram, and it just seems to me that the...

Re: running rough...blue smoke....

Advance Auto has one for $9.99. Looks like brass tip too. Not surprised that the dealer part is much much more.

Anyway, no offense. I think the fact that you are out there actively going above...

Re: running rough...blue smoke....

And the customer ends up paying hundreds or more for something that could have been fixed rather quickly and inexpensively. Like I said elsewhere, most people without Saturn experience just don't...

Re: 2002 SL1 - Metal straining sound coming from engine area - think.

Are we by chance talking about an upper motor mount problem here? Hard to envision what is being described but a bad engine mount would be very nasty sounding, not so bad at a constant speed. And the...
