Re: How many s series owners became ion owners

None, at least those with a brain. Ions were junk. Engines are problematic is an understatement.

Re: 1995 SL1 fuel lines can be used to get part numbers and parts diagrams.

You will likely be pulling a set of used lines from a JY, and this is assuming they don't cut the lines when...

Re: Sl1 blown head gasket

You have to have a shop test the head to find the crack, which will likely be the #5 camshaft journal. 1999 heads were not known for cracking, like the 1991-1998 SOHC head was, but your symptoms are...

Re: 2001 Saturn SL1 Coolant Leak

You can use this website to find the part number from the diagrams. This can help you to order the correct replacement part. Hoses dry rot and they can begin leaking.

Re: HP ignition wires?

Granatelli Motorsports makes an 8mm wire with 0-ohm/ft of resistance. You don't get to choose color and they cost close to $90. They work great. I averaged 35mpg with automatic and my oil guzzling...

Re: Rescue mission with JY valve body?

A loose input shaft nut will generate a P0732 code, loss of reverse, and slamming gears in forward.

Swap the VB out. Changing the Pressure regulator valve requires dismantling the VB, which is...

Re: new problem coolant 2001 SC2 Coupe

Pull the AC condenser and compressor off the engine. It makes things a lot easier to work on, under the hood. Unless you absolutely need the AC system, to me they are not worth the hassle.

Re: Mystery coolant leak

Was the puddle on the passenger side of the car? My guess is that your water pump is leaking.

Re: new to the saturn game

Good luck finding a center console. They were problematic with the latches and the hinges breaking, and they are now hard to come by.

Re: Saturn SL3

Make sure it is a supercharged 3800 Series-II.....

Of course you'll measure the lifespan of your passenger side inner tie rod with a stopwatch. Exhaust manifolds aren't good for the plastic dust...

Re: Intermittent Taat Shift Slam When Cold. Restart will fix issue.

Sounds like you may need to perform a transmission relearn or you have a sticking pressure regulator valve.

Who did you buy the VB from?

Re: S series timing

No. You have to pull the timing cover to remove the cylinder head.

If you suspect a burnt valve or dead cylinder, then you should perform a compression test.

Re: Engine swap

No. The 1999 engine uses a returnless fuel system and a different TPS sensor. So you have to swap fuel injectors and the rail.

Your 1997 manifolds will NOT work on the 1999 engine.

Re: My experience with Motor Oils and my Saturn

13,000 miles on break-in oil is way to many miles for break in. Engine break in should be completed at 500 miles for a brand new/rebuilt engine.

Re: Detonation due to Carbon Buildup

Switch to higher octane fuel. Spark knock is bad for an engine and burnt valves is a risk you run with lean conditions.

You don't hear it as much with cold starts because the engine is in open...

Re: 1998 SL Water in Trunk

I drilled holes for drainage, as the seam sealer under my rear quarter panel was cracked and rotted out.

Re: '99 SL2 scary bad knock

It is better to rebuild the engine than to swap a used engine into it because of oil consumption. Finding a replacement engine is sketchy because 1999 is a single year interchange.

DOHC engines...

Re: starting and stalling problems

Dealership scanners are more thorough than the scan tools you buy at a local FLAPS. They can see pending codes that your scan tool can not find or see.

Newer cars are being engineered so you have...

Re: Smoke when taking off from stop light

I added SeaFoam to my fuel tank, in addition to soaking the pistons.

Piston soak is not going to help you, because you have leaking valve stem seals

Re: Low RPM turning power steering wheel

Re: Smoke when taking off from stop light

Do a soak and you'll risk burning your exhaust valves in the #3 cylinder.

I went through all the rigmarole, with my first engine. The SeaFoam treatment did nothing to curb the oil consumption and...

Re: Smoke when taking off from stop light

Valve stem seals are shot. It is a common failure in higher mileage twin cams.

I am on my second high-mileage twin cam, and I have the exact same problem.

Just keep an eye on your oil level...

Re: Would replacing my air filter improve my mpg?

Ain't no stock twin cams getting 41mpg, even my automatic has barely turned 37.0 on an all-highway trip to Toledo, OH. And the automatic has better gearing for economy than the 5-speed manual.

Re: Thermal Exhaust

If you don't want a coffee can full of bumblebees for your exhaust tune, then keep the stock muffler on your system.

Everything else is going to sound like a fart-canned Civic, because it is a 4...
