Re: No fuel, no fuel gage, no pwr locks....

I had trouble with the passlock system that required "re-calibrating" it. The passlock sensor contains two coded value resistors. Over time the resistance can change/drift, resulting in the voltages...

Re: A/C leak and repairs

AC seems to have about a 12 year life span before all sorts of little leaks develop. I have replaced the condenser and basically all of the lines. The compressor, expansion valve, evaporator, and...

Re: 2000 Saturn LS2 rear strut and spring replacement advice/help?

Having changed rear shocks/struts on several cars now, I have found that the L-Series is actually easier to work on and more durable than those ones. Both my 2000's have original shocks and springs...

Re: Where to buy a Used Tail Lamp Assy

If it isn't too much damage and you aren't too worried about a perfect look you can repair a tail light lens. I used clear 5 minute epoxy. Yes, I know epoxy does degrade in sunlight, but this repair...

Re: 2001 Saturn L200 Wheel Cylinder retaining bolt help?

I am thinking that if it didn't loosen and fall out then it corroded away due to the dissimilar metal combination with the aluminum wheel cylinder. If that happened, then you should look at replacing...

Re: Just replaced front pads on 2000 SWLS

A check of Craigslist or Kijijii shows that dyslexia over these Saturn model designations is very common. At least 10% of the ads will be mis-identified. Auto parts counter people are even worse. I...

Re: Small, expensive fixes for my LW1 2000

While it is likely there is a coolant leak in one of the AC lines, resulting in low pressure that prevents the compressor from engaging (control interlock), there is also the possibility of failure...

Re: P0304 RESOLVED!!!

Congrats on a cheap fix. I recently did coil packs on both of my cars: L-Series - $120, Saab 9-5 - $680 (Canadian prices +$). Eventually it will go. Pull the plugs again in a couple of months to make...

Re: P0304

Most likely the coil pack. These are cheap for the 4 cylinder because they are common with a whole raft of GM cars that use the Ecotec. I had to change mine recently for the same reason. It doesn't...

Re: Just Question about 2001 L200 exhaust manifold

@Frostman- There should be room to go over the rack, but you may have to do some fancy routing and make some heat shields, etc. to keep from cooking/melting things. Have a look on yours.

Re: L300 shimmy

What you are describing is wheel hop. These cars are bad for that. Try changing (increase) the tire pressure to ~35 psi.

Re: Rich/Surging Condidtion

These symptoms could be caused by a clog in the exhaust system. A common cause of this is a plugged cat. But there could be something elsewhere. Check for dents. How do I suspect this? Last winter I...

Re: Just Question about 2001 L200 exhaust manifold

Yes. The exhaust pipe goes UNDER the steering rack for the MT. The AT exhaust pipe goes OVER. That, combined with the fact that the engine sits 2" farther back with the MT, means the exhaust manifold...

Re: L300 shimmy

Does it only happen under engine load? A symptom of a worn inner CV joint is drivetrain vibration under load. When you lift and coast or shift to neutral (yes, it is OK to do this) does the vibration...

Re: 2003 L-200 tuning

You can hold 2nd gear until about 55mph and 3rd is good for about 80. Just keep going until you (almost) hit the rev limiter at 6500. Hang on. I find that this engine doesn't come "on the cam" until...

Re: 2008-2010 Chevy Cobalt SS engine swap?

I agree with Frostman. I don't think the manual transmissions are the same. The L-Series uses a Saab transmission, as used in the 9-5 but with a different final drive ratio (~3000 rpm @ 70 mph).

Re: 2001 L300 Heater Core/Hose Leak

Wow! Those are the best "How-To" pictures I have ever seen on any site. Nice extreme close-ups that are well focused. I have only one suggestion to improve it. You don't have to drain the radiator to...

Re: Saab 9-5 Sway Bars

Yes, those should fit. But be aware that it will be necessary to partially drop the front subframe to get the front one in, and if one of the bolts breaks during the operation it could get messy....

Re: Thinking of getting an L

Steering racks performance is highly dependent on driver actions. Those of us who learned to drive many years ago on cars without power steering habitually do not try to steer with the car...

Re: L200 timing chain question

@Bajascout- Do chains really stretch? No. But they do wear at all the pivots. There are 120 or so links. If each one wears 0.004" then the chain becomes 1/2" longer and your tensioner runs out of...

Re: "Hole" in Rotor

Perhaps your expectations for $20 rotors were too high. I have had good experience with rotors branded "Zimmerman". In my other life in the Saab community, anything other than OEM is considered...

Re: L200 timing chain question

I would be reluctant to even start the engine. A tow might be a good idea, unless you DIY in situ.

Re: L200 timing chain question

If your chain is hitting the valve cover then it is more than ready to be changed. Another fact, there is a chain guide at the top between the two camshaft sprockets that is intended to prevent this....

Re: L 200 starts then stalls

From my recent issues with Passlock, I discerned a couple of things. The reason an exact voltage is not posted is that different resistors are used in individual passlock sensors. This is to prevent...
