Re: 1994 SL2 DOHC auto: mediocre MPG, won't warm up past 3/8 mark on gauge

Full table if it helps any, sounds like you have it already though.

Re: How can I tell if front struts need replacing?

On DOHC models with a clunk in the rear wiggle the sway bar end links before condemning the struts. If there is much play to them, or they pop off of the ball they're bad. The end links are much...

Re: Broken/hanging stuff under my car...

The other potential issue with self tapping screws is the potential for them to come up into the center console area. Just get short ones and watch where you put them. You don't need 1000's per...

Re: Anyone retire there saturn to winter beater.

Does retiring my last S-Series to the crusher count? :(
I was surprisingly sad to see it leave on the trailer today.

It's even sadder when you find out a 3000lb 165hp 160ish ft/lb AWD car is...

Re: 97 engine/PCM in '95 sl1/'96 sl2 ?

'95 is pretty electronically specific to '95.

'96 and '97 _might_ swap but if nothing else goes wrong then the upshift light on the gauge cluster swaps sides and therefor the pinouts will be wrong.

Re: cluster swap.

With pin swaps you might get a '93-'94 cluster to work, but why lose the oil pressure gauge?

Re: 2002 SL1 w/ 20k miles. Go for it, or steer clear?

20k miles isn't enough mileage to get more than 7 oil changes done, unless they were done on a time based interval rather than mileage. Not sure if there were other standard maintenance items that...

Re: Alternator Light With NEW Alternator

Depending on how much you drive and if the car is a 5spd you can probably get away with just recharging the battery overnight for a week. I got 5-6 start's, 50ish miles and using everything normally...

Re: flat spot @ 2800-4000rpm

Try different brands of fuel if you can. I have Mobile, Gulf, Cumberland Farms, Shell and Irving to choose from. Shell got the best mileage and overall running, Mobile about 2mpg behind but same...

Re: Having trouble starting ....

Sounds like the fuel pump check valve failed. Like they all do. Do the wait 2-3 seconds in run before starting thing like it's a '97.

Re: The 100th post about a failing engine coolant fan

Verify the parts store gave you the right part. As '91-'95's have 2 nearly identical looking sensors they may have given you the 1 wire sensor rather than the 2. Both have 2 pins on the connector...

Re: 1994 SL2 DOHC auto: mediocre MPG, won't warm up past 3/8 mark on gauge

I can't see a thermostat change taking 2.5hrs (book/shop-charge time sure but real-world time? no way). 15-20min to drain, 10min to swap, 5-10min to refill & verify self burping is happening. 40min...

Re: Restoring Alloys?

Re: spoiler on sedans?

Take a spoiler from a '91-'92 SC or '93-'96 SC2 or '93-'96 SC1 with it. Sedan spoilers won't fit or look right on a Coupe. There was no 1991 or 1992 SC2.
Factory spoiler on a SC2:...

Re: Saturn SL2 Seats

All DOHC's (SC, SC2, SL2, SW2) got lumbar support (driver only), adjustable height seat bottom (driver only), and adjustable head rests (both) from the factory '91-'02.

If it didn't have those it...

Re: Shifter bushing replacement - anyone ever have trouble with this?

2 cables (one with the replaced bushing), 1x 10mm head bolt holding the cable clamp and 4x 13mm nuts holding the shifter to the car. That'll get it apart enough to file down the unwanted JB Weld.

Re: My New Manual SW2 (project)

Oldnuc and DIYGuy have found ways around the lack of CC in '96-'02's when you swap gears, pretty sure they've posted how in the past.

SC1's are SOHC's as well, my 1st/only SOHC was a '97 SC1 and...

Re: My New Manual SW2 (project)

Pretty sure all '99's have the 3rd gen style exhaust and 2nd gen style intake. Count the exhaust manifold bolts to be sure, 1st/2nd gen DOHC has 5 bolts and everything else has closer to 10.

Go...

Re: Gen3 - Gen2 headlight swap

It works on the Coupes without much fuss. Looks kinda funny without the matching hood though.

Maybe the SL's and SW's just aren't awesome like that.

Re: Saturn SL2 Seats

The only issue with using the passenger seat is it's a bit wider than the driver seat, so the foam usually has to be trimmed to fit inside the fabric.

Probably easier overall to get the leather...

Re: My New Manual SW2 (project)

Even a 12v coordless drill battery can be used to get around not having a battery in the car. Someone with a 3rd gen will have to chime in as to if they show mileage without turning the key to "run",...
