Re: Annual Angst

This is probably it, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you have the means, get your wife a new car and keep the Saturn for yourself. But the fact of the matter is; maintenance and repair of...

Re: 1998 Saturn SL2 won't start when parked on driveway incline

EDIT: So, I just made it through the 5 pages and it seems as thought you have tried these fixes. I also see that you're getting solid advice from the folks on this forum. There's something about...

Re: 1998 Saturn SL2 won't start when parked on driveway incline

Sorry, I didn't have time to look through all of the previous posts, but maybe my experience with a similar issue might help. I was having the same problem, except not necessarily on an incline. ...

Re: Mystery coolant leak

I just went through this: Coolant temp light kept coming on every couple of days. No coolant on the ground or anywhere else, BUT I could see that the reservoir was low each time. One day,...

Thumbs Up Re: Sunroof won't close!

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye out periodically.

Re: Radiator recommendation

I replaced mine about 6 months ago with a Delco from RockAuto. The original in my '99 lasted 20 years, so I decided to pay a little more and go with Delco again. I hope it pays off.

Re: Sunroof won't close!

I have a similar problem, and the problem is not the switch. There is a small plastic piece (I'll find the part name and number for your later) on both sides of the sunroof that has broken. ...

Re: Installing a Flip Down Screen

The monitor is probably pulling too much amperage for the narrow gauge wire used for the dome light. Feel the wires while the unit is on, if they get warm or hot, you'll need a bigger gauge wire.

Re: Where have you and your Saturn gone?

Back and forth between West Lafayette, Indiana and Southern California four times and flat towed behind a moving van for the fifth. Back in 1999, when gas was .98/gal, I drove from Purdue University...

Re: Glue Torn Seat Foam?

This will definitely work. My wife and I recently re-upholstered our entire motorhome and had terrific luck with the 3M. Now if we hit the lottery, we can afford to put gas in it.

Valve clatter?

I recently rebuilt the engine and transmission on my '99 SL2 (183k miles). I changed the oil after about 200 miles. I replaced the oil with a Mobil 1 5W30. Now in the morning, when I start it up,...

Re: What is this part?

Although it doesn't look like the one in my '99 SL2, it does look like a knock sensor to me.

Re: CA Emissions parts?

I bought my 99 SL2 when I lived in Indiana at Purdue. When I moved back here to California, I never had a problem passing smog and it doesn't have the smog pump installed in it.

Re: got an Ultragauge... now what?

Can anyone give me any feedback comparing a Scanguage to an Ultraguage. I'll be buying one in a few days and would like owner opinions.

Re: First oil change after rebuild

Yep, I also realize you can blend a horse and a donkey...but can't blend thereafter. Thanks for your help.

Re: First oil change after rebuild

I did the first oil change after 230 miles. Am I wrong in expecting that the oil should've looked a little cleaner? It wasn't black, but a dark translucent brown. What should it have looked like? ...

Problem with brakes

When I depress my brake pedal, there is an odd sound like a puff of air. The car stops, but the pedal will bottom out if I put decent force behind it. I've bled the brakes several times and there...

First oil change after rebuild

I just rebuilt the engine and transmission in my 1999 SL2 (183k miles). I filled the engine with Valvoline 5w30 conventional, knowing I'd be changing the oil and filter after a few hundred miles. ...

Re: Sl2 1997 Automatic takes forever to start!

I had this same problem on my 1999 SL2 after replacing the fuel filter/pressure regulator. Unfortunately, you have to use a genuine GM filter/regulator, otherwise you'll get this problem. After I...
