Re: rear creaking noise when braking

Thanks! diagram from wholesalegmpartsonline.com is great! I notice many suspension parts are no longer available!

Gotta say Saturn must have used cheap metallurgy in building their cars. The...

Re: rear creaking noise when braking

I'll have to take the drum off to check that out. Do you have the FSM chapter on taking the drum off? I think I have to retract the shoes first by turning a star wheel.

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder WIll Not Turn

Mine was flashing. Does that indicate it was tripped? If it was tripped, shouldn't an alarm sound?

Re: front brakes and hardware 2002 SL2

If I had new rotors, I would have installed them. Next brake job definitely. Knocked off lots of rust!

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder WIll Not Turn

Just looked, it is definitely not red, but a dim orange, like the SES light. I was expecting a bright red flashing LED that I see on some cars which would serve as a warning to a would be thief...

Where is this security light on my 2002 SL2? Never noticed such a light so far.

Re: 2002 SL2 fuel economy

By slides, I mean anypart of the brake caliper that allow the pads to "float", which include the pins, and the key ways on the pads which ride on the clips.

Re: front brakes and hardware 2002 SL2

My rotors are 0.688 in, still good. Install new front pads and clips today. The pad carrier now floats as it should where the old set was stuck due to rust.

While everything was apart, I took a...

Re: front brakes and hardware 2002 SL2

Braking is fine. Current pads still have a lot of meat left on them. I am replacing the pads because they are binding a bit due to rusty clips, not because the rotor and pads are at the end of their...

Re: 2002 SL2 fuel economy

Just filled up, this tank was 21 mpg, 90% NYC stop and go driving with AC. Better than the last tank of 17.8 mpg which I think was incorrect due to not resetting trip odo immediately after fill-up. ...

Re: front brakes and hardware 2002 SL2

Going with Autozone limited lifetime pads is a no brainer for me. Buy it once and never have to buy it again.

Re: front brakes and hardware 2002 SL2

I have never owned a car with vented rotors till this Saturn. Maybe vented rotors wear out faster? What is the min thickness?

Re: front brakes and hardware 2002 SL2

I have done my own brake work forever and never turned or teplaced a rotor except on onethat had a small hairline crack. Sure, new or turned rotor is best but as long as the rotor meets min thickness...

front brakes and hardware 2002 SL2

I bled all 4 wheels today, fluid was nice and clear. I wanted to take the front calipers off to clean the rust that's binding the pads but did not have replacement brake pad clips, which are really...

Re: Any tests to determine if my MP7 transmission is slipping or not ?

I find it very difficult to read the level on the dipstick since it is light gray and smooth. Fresh ATF fluid is very pale and do not have much contrast against the smooth stick. When I pull it out,...

Re: Any tests to determine if my MP7 transmission is slipping or not ?

Drove the SL2 again today and no more symptoms of tranny slip. Could being down 1 quart cause the slip, or was it due to the leaking filter? Anyone with a diagram of the ATF flow path? Just curios. I...

Re: Any tests to determine if my MP7 transmission is slipping or not ?

Just took a test drive. No more slipping when I floor the throttle! The car actually accelerates instead of doing almost nothing. So the leaky Carquest/ Advanceautoparts filter caused pressure drop...

Re: Why is my SES light on?

Second engine start with IAT connected cleared the SES. Would have been nice if OBD2 informs you why the SES was set.

Re: Why is my SES light on?

Yep! Started the engine and idled for 2 minutes, SES still there. Can the SES be cleared like DTC's? I will drive it some today and see if it goes away by itself.
