Thanks sbakar, I'll keep it in mind. I thinking the MAP sensor was the problem although I have not yet put on enough miles to accurately check fuel mileage. I will post results when I fill up.

Front brake pads were replaced about 6K miles ago -- one had been dragging a little, caliper was cleaned and was good, no indication of any drag now. Rear shoes had very little wear.
