Did you inspect the socket connections to see if something was bent or loose inside the socket plug? This should be the first thing to do before any dissembly takes place.

This is odd thread...I used 87 octane since I owned my current Saturn L300 and get 25 lead foot and cruise 27 mpg without any additive to the oil or gas. I do use 5w-30 synblended and have no issue...
