Re: Saturn SL2 1999 Timing Chain Replacement

Re: Saturn SL2 1999 Timing Chain Replacement

Try that oil and be sure to use THIS FILTER WIX filter 51516XP this will give you room for another 8-12 oz of oil in the engine. Keep the engine full of oil, do not run low.

I don't know where you...

Re: I need some advice on some body work for my car

The paint specification for that car are different for the various parts. Metal, plastic panels, bumpers are all slightly different and they do not mix. Sometimes you can find a shop that can repair...

Re: 98 SC2 project. Drive for now, maybe rebuild later.

The seismic plug wire retainers are not required if using a quality plug wires. The 98 and older engine is an entirely different head design.

The 99 is a true gen-3 design all of this...

Re: Saturn SL2 1999 Timing Chain Replacement

This one should also do the job. Valvoline™ Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil (formerly SynPower™) The idea here is these oils meet a newer industry specification for braking down thin carbon films...

Re: Saturn SL2 1999 Timing Chain Replacement

That is a new product and you will have to probably check a NAPA store as they are the usual Valvoline dealer. If you can not find it I can pick another one.

Re: Saturn SL2 1999 Timing Chain Replacement

From the looks of the top end I would suspect some time and good oil will get rid of the lifter bleed down. Keep in mind the hydraulic lifter is a generic GM part and they have redesigned it multiple...

Re: Groan while steering not always audible

Wheel bearing, CV joints make popping noises at low speed hard turns such as right or left turns in a residential neighborhood. If it is a bad wheel bearing replace both sides and the hubs at the...

Re: Fuel tank pressure sensor

Yep, pressure sensor dead. Always good to be sure when you have to dismantle the car off of the part you suspect is bad to find out after it is replaced you missed the real failed part which is right...

Re: Fuel tank pressure sensor

That is a real possibility but a leaking vent solenoid will do the same thing and it is easier to check. The code indicates the VENT solenoid is not venting. Take it out and verify it will open and...

Re: 98 SC2 project. Drive for now, maybe rebuild later.

Those are the water-oil detraining sections so use RTV to reseal the sides or they quit working. Gunk is normal and not an issue. There is a seal on the 99 as well but probably not as sloppy as the...

Re: Saturn 2002 put 96 DOHC block in it?

Depends, aftermarket radios are powered reverse from the OEM GM/Saturn radio so the electrical radio ON load is being supplied by a low current capacity circuit so it tends to overheat and fail. IF...

Re: Saturn 2002 put 96 DOHC block in it?

The issues with the Gen-3 cars are the electrical system is weak, power locks and windows that are not properly maintained overload it at every operation, this results in I/P Panel failure....

Re: In the market for DOHC Aluminum Valve Cover -- 1993 - 1995

That is the going price including all the bolts. They don't leak either.

This is a good gasket set for that cover: Magnum VS25097 Search eBay etc. They are red.

Re: 98 SC2 project. Drive for now, maybe rebuild later.

From the picture is also looks to be leaking from the left end down into the bell housing and on the left end of the back side. If you plan on playing the plastic cover leak whack-a-leak game clean...

Re: Spaceman's BYOB-DOHC Rebuild Partythread

You can use any auto trans that is from a DOHC car, marked MP7, 91-02. The bet bet will be a 98-99 vintage trans with low miles. The 00-02 are OK as well. You should change the axle seals while the...

Re: Saturn SL2 1999 Timing Chain Replacement

The 700F RTV is gray and relatively new. Permatex Optimum Grey #27036
Permatex Ultra Copper is also good for 700F #81878
Best to read the TDS before ordering or using.
