Re: Possible Bad PCM "2001 SL2"

How difficult was the replacement? I think I'll be facing that one myself if I chose to drive the car beyond its current inspection.

Re: Clutch Chatter sw2

The Duralast ones give me 3-4 years of service. Not great, but not terrible.

Re: Clutch Chatter sw2

Your car has 4 motor mounts. One under the transaxle, one on the top near the passenger end of the engine, and two dogbones. One dogbone goes from the front of the transaxle to the subframe and the...

Re: Front Sway Bar Bushing Replacement

I recently did a search on sway bar bushings and found this old thread which I never closed out.

The wheel hop was from a shifted belt/high spot on one of the front tires. Moral of that story is...

Re: Clutch Chatter sw2

In my experience, worn motor mounts can contribute to clutch chatter also, particularly the lower dogbone mount. Worth a check if you don't know the condition of the mounts.

Re: Wheel bearing replacement turned into something much more!

Might as well replace the sway bar bushings in the clamps to frame and LCA attachments while you have it all apart.

Re: 2001 SL2 idling high.

Next time it idles high, find a safe place to stop. Turn off the engine and restart it without touching the gas pedal. If the idle is normal after restart, replace the throttle position sensor. ...

Re: 2001 SL2: What is this little hose?

The solenoid switch allows vacuum to pass through to the diverter valve, which opens it, allowing air from the air pump into the exhaust manifold. With the vacuum source line broken, none of this...

Re: Po-410

It will be difficult to find a pre-bent plastic tube just like the brittle one. I'd fashion something out of some brake line and vacuum hose at each end.

Re: 1997 SL1 Oil Leak - From where?

SOHC cam covers don't typically warp. In addition to the drain plug and pressure sender already mentioned, the oil filter could leak in that same region.

Re: Strange Squeak from Clutch

This is from way out in left field, but I have encountered crankcase ventilation system issues that would cause a rear main seal to squeal like a reed. This would explain the momentary noise after...

Re: 97 SL2 - Bad Shaking Between 30-80mph

As this came on rather suddenly, I would look for a shifted belt in a tire. Jack up each wheel one at a time and spin the tire while watching for high spots in the tire or the tread moving from side...

Re: P0446

Just to close out this one, my EVAP monitor went ready about a week ago and the P0446 code has not returned. The only thing I can figure is that I rarely fill the tank, but a couple weeks ago, I had...

Re: Piston Soak Success

At the "new" burn rate, I'll switch to synthetic at the next oil change.

Re: Piston Soak Success

At the recent burn rate, she has been fed a steady diet of Supertech dyno oil. I used to use higher end dyno oils, but never synthetics. Car burned a quart every 1500 miles 12 years ago when I...

Piston Soak Success

Thought I'd share my recent experience. My SC-1 has been an oil burner for all of my 12 years of ownership, getting progressively worse over time. For the past year, oil burn rate has been around...

Re: Dread Shifter Cable Loop Breakage... UGH! NEED HELP!

It is possible to at least get it into first gear two ways:
1. Grab the cable with a pair of vice grips (presuming there is enough bare cable exposed to grab), move the lever all the way to the...

I don't know what size the screws are, but I have successfully extracted them with an allen key. Just have to find the size that fits in the torx hole nice and snug. If you are worried about...

Re: Replacing ECM

If it looks OK and runs, seems like a reasonable price. The Saturnfans community can certainly help you get it running well.

$120 seems high for an ICM. I bought one at Autozone for less than...

Re: Replacing ECM

Try to get the buyer to clarify his acronyms. The car has an ICM (Ignition Control Module) and a PCM (Powertrain Control Module). The ignition control module is under the coil packs and is easy to...

Re: no crank......no turn off.....my car is going crazy

Ignition switch is at the end of the lock cylinder. I changed mine years ago, and it is not a difficult job. You do need a 5.5 mm socket or preferably nut drivre to remove the two screws that hold...

Re: 3rd Gen coupe door panel question

Maybe one of these days if I get bored. Driver's window is balky too, although I understand you can't reach much of the window mechanism from the door panel side.

Appreciate the link.

Re: 3rd Gen coupe door panel question

Thanks OldNuc - I'll just keep it faded to the rear speakers then.
