Ion-2 Equipment

I'm going to be bringing my son's 2007 Ion-2 4-door sedan home next month so I can sell it for him (larger market here in the metro area compared to where he lives in a more rural place), but I can't...

Re: CHG OIL light

Thanks. I did that, but not sure it worked. The manual says something about a chime "chiming 5 times" and I know that didn't happen. The readout was saying "OIL LIFE" when I did it.

Oh well, I'll...

CHG OIL light

I read the manual, but it's a bit confusing as to what position the key should be in etc. to reset this indicator. Can someone give me the exact sequence of how to do it? Thanks!

Brake life

My son reports that his brakes are "squeaking" and since he's coming home for the weekend, I guess we're looking at a brake job. He hasn't said yet if it is front or rear, but he's not too car-savvy....

Should I buy an Ion?

As the past purchaser of an SL2 and almost owner of an Astra (long story), I'm looking for another car for my son and found a 2007 Saturn Ion 3 sedan at a local Chevy dealer that looks like a good...

Re: My New Non-Astra (long)

My company supplies robots and paint systems to just about everybody, so I had my choice of GM or Ford discounts. The Ford discount had some extra incentives that made it a bit better than GM's for...

Re: My New Non-Astra (long)

Yeah, the Calibre, although catchy-looking, is basically a Neon replacement and definitely not as "refined" as either the Astra or Mazda3. Just a whole different class of car.

I've also found it...

Re: My New Non-Astra (long)

Yes, that Saturn dealer is where we shopped for our potential Aura and Astra. When we picked our 3 up, I looked across the lot and saw a couple of Astras there.

BTW, when I listed the Mazda3...

My New Non-Astra (long)

I'm not posting this as any kind of a slam, but more in hopes that GM can see what they might have to do to the Astra to catch up with the competition, especially on the higher end.

I have been a...

Re: Bike Rack for Astra?

I've got a Thule rack on my BMW 325i and have seen what appear to be compatible mounting points on other European cars (such as the Saab 9-3). When we were thinking about getting an Astra, we also...

Re: My Astra is Here!

Here's a like to a really interesting story on how the ship and cars were salvaged: http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/magazine/16-03/ff_seacowboys. Talk about the ultimate macho adventure --...

Re: Astra momentum

I live in the Detroit area, and generally whatever is the latest model from any of the 3 Detroit mfrs, you see them all over the place (such as Outlooks, Escalades, etc.). That said, I've only seen...

Re: Astra Size

Yeah, but the Europeans put up with a lot less room than we do and typically drive shorter distances. In Italy, I've seen a family of five stuffed into an old Fiat 500 (Cinquecento), a car smaller...

Post Leaving the Saturn "family" (for now)

Although I've owned only one Saturn, I feel like I've been involved closely with the brand over the last several years (including following this forum occasionally). So that's why I feel compelled to...

Re: Any 'Official' MPG rating yet?

Off in which direction? The old EPA ratings were very optimistic and few people did as well, whereas the new ratings are more pessimistic and you should be able to beat them if you're a reasonably...

My wife and I have lived and worked in Detroit, in and around the auto industry, all our lives and have always had at least one "American" car...

Cruise control?

Can anyone confirm whether or not the Astra has cruise control? I couldn't find it on any of the spec sheets and a CarsDirect comparison sheet shows it as "N/A". When I test drove them last night it...

Re: Ride and drive the Astra!

I got there for the 6:00 slot. One problem was that there was no way to tell people apart or suggest that people from the earlier times leave. I left at 6:30, but could have just stuck around and...

Re: My impressions from the Astra drive event

Good writeup. Were you just at the Detroit event last night (the 8th)? We were evaluating the Astra as my wife's car, so had a different set of priorities from what you or I might personally look at....

Re: No sunroof for the 3-door?

Everyone over here calls it "military time", but actually it's the way time is generally displayed all over Europe. I got used to it on my trips to Italy quite a few years ago, so it's not a big...

Re: Aura OK for shorter people?

At the time I wrote it, I was not aware that the Aura offered a standard 4-cylinder for '08. When I was looking at the '07 models, they were all V6s.

Aura OK for shorter people?

A family member is interested in buying a new car, and I was recommending the Aura for her. An alternative, especially since it costs less and comes with a more economical 4-cylinder, would be the...
