Re: Dead Battery and Locked out

That's strange. I suppose you tried both keys. And inserted the keys 180*.

I suppose a locksmith might be able to help. OnStar can unlock a lot of GM cars but if the battery is dead that might be...

Re: Bilstein Shocks and struts

I mostly did tool organizing and clean up so goob gets credit for the real research and work.

Now his Astra looks great and is comfortable to ride in. From the passenger seat, his new Bilstein...

Re: Bilstein Shocks and struts

Fake news!

My buddy agreed with me. But he knows a truck mechanic who will look at the strut and to a professional assessment. Just for fun, as the new struts are already in the garage.

Re: Dashboard Lights Recurring - Battery and Vehicle

Well it seems you have a battery issue but before firing the parts cannon, get the codes read.

A few potential issues:

- battery fail. replacement batteries might last as long as the warranty...

Re: Bilstein Shocks and struts

From reading the Bilstein site, I think the B4 is probably closer to the XE shocks and the B6 is closer to the XR shocks. The B8 is just for lowered suspensions.

Were the rear springs in good...

Re: Bilstein Shocks and struts

Helped my buddy replace some suspension bits on his salty XR this weekend. There was a low-frequency clunk on the front passenger side when hitting small bumps in the road. The clunk from my bad drop...

Re: Manual transmission failure

My Astra with "automatic transmission" got stuck. There was a small plastic bushing between the linkage and transmission box that cracked, so the fix was $20.

If the clutch is working fine for...

Re: Goodbye Connecticut Dealership

A lot of Astras were "demos" or sold as "used". Wondered if that was some scheme on the government bailout.

Re: New astra project

The other day I saw a UK Astra video on head gasket for similar engine. Maybe head swap is an option.

Re: New astra project

I think a lot of the systems are matched, including the center screens. A dealer should be able to pair the systems but since Saturn dealers are around it might take some searching. Maybe you can do...

Re: P0128:Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature

Replacement thermostat keeps coolant at about 93*C in the winter (according to secret menu and ScanGauge via OBD port). Interior cabin heat is blazing hot finally. Bad thermostat kept coolant at...

Re: P0128:Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature

A few years ago, I found chunks of a medium-sized o-ring at the bottom of the clear coolant reservoir. Oddly, the o-ring bits had several small nipples molded into them.

I wrongly assumed the...

Re: Water Pump

For falling coolant level, you should search for telltale drips and stains so you nail the actual cause and reduce probability of another issue. A few quick checks for the water pump:

- is there...

C152 has a fleet of Astras and a lot of posts here so would make a good home for your car.

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

FYI - when changing the coolant cap a few years ago, I found a few big chunks of a broken o-ring in the translucent coolant reservoir. I recall the rubber bits had small nipples and the size was...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

Replaced thermostat & related big gasket today.
-- Cabin heat is uber hot now.
-- The P0128 still shows but that should clear hopefully after a few drive cycles.
-- Whole job probably took 3-4...

Re: P0128:Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature

There is a secret menu on the CD30 center display that shows coolant temp. I THINK it displays in CELSIUS not Fahrenheit, even if the outside temp is set to US Fahrenheit display (could someone...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

hahaha. P0128 keeps popping up. Reading about 183*F stabilised so that seems a bit low IMHO. Cabin heat is a bit lukewarm. Last week cabin heat did not work for 30 minutes, then suddenly got hot,...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

Flushed brake fluid. Shop did that for $60 total which was a no brainer. Braking is smoother and less nervous. This also helps prevent system from rusting from inside out.

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

Replaced rear tires with Goodyear Assurance AS (Astra XE model with steel wheels). Fronts are matching which we replaced a few months ago. These Goodyear tires ride nicely and are quiet.

Replaced...
