Re: Ecotec 1.4 (Cruze turbo) swap potential?

I need somebody to go out and wreck their new Cruze this winter.

Re: Rustoleum paint job project on 01 SC-2

Interesting plan.
For those less ambitious, I got my S Coupe repainted at MAACO on sale for 300 bucks (white plus clearcoat - the original color is white but one side and the trunk were replacement...

Re: 96 SOHC new head

Good work taking time to inspect the part before throwing it in the car.

Thanks for taking time to detail this, the cracked head syndrome seems pretty common for us SOHC folks and I'm sure my time...

Re: Stainless Exhaust Tubing?

This car was used for commuting to high school and on college campuses by my kids for most of its life. Now I'm retired and most of my trips are under 5 miles. And even with "glo-bull" warming it...

Re: Stainless Exhaust Tubing?

Their must have been a lot of variation in the factory parts.
My 97 (145,000 miles) has the original system pretty much intact, the only part that has corroded away was the muffler strap.

The...

Re: Ecotec 1.4 (Cruze turbo) swap potential?

When production starts up this summer, I'll check out some basic dimensions of the powerpack and see if this has any real potential.

Then we'll need some wreckin' to create the salvage candidates.

Re: Riddle me these sparkplugs...

Cryogenics really works on brake rotors (at least the local fire dept swears by them now) but I don't really see the advantage on spark plug electrodes.

Re: FIXED OIL BURNING with ATF in engine crankcase

Some threads live forever, LOL.

ATF (talking about Dexron type fluids here) is essentially the same base oil as motor oil (can be synthetic or conventional base) with a different additive package...

Re: Ecotec 1.4 (Cruze turbo) swap potential?

Data I've found show the Cruze coming in at 2800 to 2900 lbs.

That's why I would expect the performance and fuel economy in a 2300 lb
Saturn to be quite good.

Re: Looking for Muffler Strap Vendor

I use screw type radiator hose clamps - linking them together to get enough length to wrap around. Plenty strong and the stainless ones don't rust.

Re: Ecotec 1.4 (Cruze turbo) swap potential?

I certainly don't expect it to be magically easy.

But I'm looking for an engine/trans package that will fit the S Sat envelope and potentially improve performance and economy and be available at a...

Re: Ecotec 1.4 (Cruze turbo) swap potential?

I would say the objectives are more power/torque + less mass (fun to drive), and better fuel economy. A combination of virtuous attributes.

I find the Cruze interesting because it will be...

Re: starting issues starts every time on the first attempt but if i go on short trip

If nothing else I've proved that there's no relationship between pump life and the leaky check valve. I've had the "pressure bleed-off" for what seems like a decade now without changing the pump.

Ecotec 1.4 (Cruze turbo) swap potential?

I think we've decided the 2.0/2.2/2.4 Ecotec is too big (especially height wise) for a clean swap into the S Coupe.

The 1.4 Ecotec turbo in the Chevy Cruze will be rated at 138 hp / 148 tq and...

Re: Painting the my SL2 a different color...

FWIW when my Sat got punted by a semi, I wound up replacing the trunk/spoiler, rear bumper, and left quarter panel. These were dark green colored panels on a white car.

I put the panels on myself...

Re: For those that use Rotella 5W40 in their Saturn..

It doesn't that I can find. And the retired Pennzoil (Shell owns Pennzoil) guy says the base is Group III. Shell has a process called XHVI which turns out a very high quality base stock.

Re: For those that use Rotella 5W40 in their Saturn..

Interesting to me that Ford specs 5W20 for their gas V10s in F350s and motorhome chassis, categories where there are no fuel economy regs.
Hard to believe they would give up engine life in these...

Re: My Saturn Burns Oil ... When to accept it?

I think the most "magic" oil for rehabbing that I tried was the Castrol Syntec 0W30 European blend. This was the green colored oil that was only available stateside at Autozone in the early 2000s...

Re: For those that use Rotella 5W40 in their Saturn..

Only time will tell. My 5W20s definitely aren't "synthetics"

My long term goal is to swap in one of those new ECOTEC 1.4 turbos from the Chevy Cruze. We'll see how many miles are left in the old...

Re: For those that use Rotella 5W40 in their Saturn..

Over on BITOG, Johnny the guy retired from Pennzoil says the Shell is not a PAO but a Type III. I don't think it makes much difference, something for the Amsoil versus Mobil debaters to keep them...

Re: Oil experiment update, 97 SC!

The Pennzoil consumed a quart in 4000 miles. Now that I'm retired, my mileage accumulation is way down, so oil change is more like a 9 month interval.

This trial is Motorcraft 5W20 semi syn in...

Re: 99 SL1 - oil filter doesn't fit!

Don't feel bad.
I just did my first oil change on my Cadillac SRX.
However it turned out to be the front differential and not the engine oil sump I was draining.
Both cast aluminum housings with...

Re: K&N air filter.

Try taking some data.
Perhaps 40 to 60 mph in one gear to avoid shifting variability.
Do it with the paper filter and then remove the element completely.
Try 3 runs with each configuration and...

Re: Have our cars survive the clunker blow out

I've not checked the list, but surely no S series qualifies for the C4C.
They all get too high a fuel mileage rating.

Don't worry about repair parts, the same basic car was built from 91 to 02...
